Overview

A fine hard bop to post-bop trumpeter, Craig Fraedrich leads three separate groups on this CD from 1992. One unit is a sextet with tenor saxophonist Tony Malaby, trombonist Eric Felten, and guitarist Paul Bollenbeck; there is also a quintet that co-stars soprano saxophonist Dave Liebman and a quartet/quintet with pianist Robert Fox and sometimes John DeSalme on tenor. The music ranges from Dexter Gordon's "Society Red" and "What Is This Thing Called Love" to five diverse Fraedrich originals, being primarily straight-ahead and advanced. An excellent effort that will probably be difficult to locate.
