Children's Literature
With just sixteen different words, brand new readers will be introduced to the sounds a young girl and her friend encounter on her farm. The scene is set on the front cover where they sit on the porch, the farmer is hard at work and the cows are grazing. "Listen to the bird. Coo. Coo. / Listen to the cow. Moo. Moo." The short story ends with the little girl's friend heading for his home on the Choo Choo while she returns to her home and falls asleep listening to the owl's Hoo Hoo. The pictures provide plenty of context and interest in this "Rookie Reader" Level A book. 2001, Children's Press, $18.00 and $4.95. Ages 4 to 6. Reviewer:Marilyn Courtot
