School Library Journal - School Library JournalGr 7 Up Ryan's opening sentence, ``Most people would rather die than give a speech,'' indicates emphatically that she is well aware of the emotions public speaking arouses in people. She offers a well-organized approach to speech making, including overcoming stage fright, selecting the topic, researching it, and delivering the speech. Two particularly useful chapters deal with preparing the drafts and working from them. These help emphasize the fact that the real work is done before the speech is delivered. The book is illustrated with black-and-white photographs of noted public speakers. A sprinkling of cartoons points out some frequent problems found in public speaking. A book that will benefit young adults who are interested in improving their grades and their skills. Dorothy Lilly, Grosse Pointe North High School, Mich.
