    more from this reviewer

    This one is a keeper!

Being an agent for 3 years now I continue to look for ways to increase retention, and productivity. After reading and discarding most books I have purchased to help, this one really sticks out to me. I felt it was easy to understand and is a book that I can refer to for many years to come.
Thank you to the Author for helping me to understand what my agencies growth problem is, and how to fix it.

Wow, the best book I have ever read on starting up an insurance agency!

I work for a Farmers District Office currently in Southern California and was turned onto this book by a respected Farmers DM in Pasadena, David Engle. My main core job duties are exactly this, developing new and successful Farmers Insurance Agencies. This book has not only helped me increase my success ratio, it has helped me make some of the best insurance agents our District has had in years!

I use this book now for every worthwhile candidate that has the ambition to transition into a new career. This is now the first step in the interviewing process, a manditory reading for all new agents. Also, I have purchased this book for all tenured agents in my District that need a reminder of how to develop your agencies into a living and working insurance machine. How to make your business work for you, not the other way around. 100% THE best book for all new and tenured agents, as well as for the people in charge of developing them! Thank you Mr. Hastings for putting almost 30 years of experience into a 2 hour read and leaving out the junk that doesn't matter and getting straight to the point. I don't have time to waste and I thank you for not wasting it.

The title made me curious, and the book started my career

This book was recommended to me by my father after a particularly difficult day as a financial planner in the Winter of 2008. I read it that night, and couldn't stop adding to the notes I started writing as soon as I began the first chapter. I continued taking notes on difficult questions the booked posed, and business ideas which Jeff had found useful. Before I knew it, I truly envisioned myself as a business owner. The book touches on everything from whether or not a person has the most common characteristics of a successful small business owner, how to hire the right staff, and even how to get and keep clients. Once I was given an opportunity to try these proven practices, I was hooked. I am now a proud insurance agency owner with a future as bright as I can imagine. I recommend this book very highly, especially if you're intrigued enough to see what the title is truly asking.

This book has some outdated information for Oregon Licensing. Promissor is not the testing provider that is used anymore. The new Provider is PSI, and new agents have to test before they can begin the Prelicensing Coursework, which is different from the way that it used to be where you took the prelicensing coursework and then took the test to get Licensed in whatever class(es) of Insurance you were going to be selling.

Great book filled with valuable ideas

I have a health insurance agency and was curious about this title. I have found this book to be a quick read, filled with innovative practical solutions that transcend the property and casualty market. I recommend this book to new and veteran agents who are committed to growing their business regardless of their insurance discipline. I will be sharing this book with my friends in NAHU and NAIFA. Thanks Mr. Hastings.

    Life changing read

This book was presented to me by Jeff Hastings himself while interviewing with his District Office. On my way back home, I had a lot to think about. Relocating my entire family across the country just to work with the best DM in all of Farmers was both an easy and hard decision. Reading this book made me realize, he wasn't just a DM or an insurance professional; he was a well rounded, highly intelligent and passionate person who cares about people and their lives.

This book starts out guiding you through the insurance industry, who is who and what is what. Then follows a survey that has simple questions that assist you in the decision of to be an agent or not to be an agent. After, it guides you to several insurance companies and how to start with each. After all is said and done, Jeff's credibility is proven and he shares with you how he has developed over 100 successful agencies throughout the years! Along with some very helpful employee template contracts...staffing is always they key to a great insurance agency.

Long story short, I relocated my family June 2009 to Houston TX and haven't looked back. The best decision I have made my entire life. This book is an understatement of his true talents and I couldn't have chosen a better book nor mentor.I am blessed to have found this book, it's author.

    A reviewer

This is the first book that I know of that takes a person through the unknowns of starting an insurance agency from scratch. It deals with the questions that every new business owner should ask themself about why an insurance agency might be their career path. It then delves into the skills and planning that must go into a successful agency. As an insurance recruiter, I am now going to start giving this to all of my potential recruits so that they can get an even clearer picture about our industry. I am sure it will be helpful for those who are ready to join us in this wonderful field. I highly recommend this book
