I've wanted to make handmade soaps for a couple of years now both for personal use and also to supplement the natural product lines of my craft fair booth. However, the entire process was just so intimidating that I never took the time to figure it out. This book explains all about making soap including the chemistry, history, different soap-making processes and many recipes. The recipes consist of everything from basic bar soap to laundry detergent to dog shampoo. The author includes an extensive guide on different herb, spice and floral additives that you can put into your handmade soaps for scent and naturopathic purposes. She also devotes an entire chapter to Starting a Soap Making Business with information on obtaining a business license, insurance and where to sell your handmade soap items. After reading this book, I feel more confident in my ability to make homemade soaps using natural ingredients. I'm motivated to start my first batch today!

I was afraid this book was going to be a little too technical for me as I don't understand much about chemicals and science and all that but thankfully (for me) the technical explanation was short-lived and soon moved on to the how-to of soap making. Once I realized the technical part was short, I reread it again to see if I could understand the chemicals and it was really quite simple. I also enjoyed reading how they made it back in the old days and a short history of soap - definitely made me grateful to have the fun and easy process this book explains instead of having to do it the old way. I loved the recipes especially - very easy to follow and I can't wait to make my first batch of soap...with so many possibilities to choose from, I think I shall start with Mango Soap!

The title of this book caught my eye, and I have to say, it's an amazing read. In addition to clearly explaining how the soap making process works and including some nice recipes, it also goes into some detail as to the chemistry and science behind soap. Great for anyone who is interested in making their own soap!

I am an enthusiastic soap maker, but since I only recently started dabbling in the hobby, I don’t know a lot about it. I am having so much fun with it already, but I really needed to know more so I went searching for information and ran across this book. Has it ever fueled my excitement! So much to learn, but the idea of making soaps to sell was intriguing so I flipped to that chapter first and was not disappointment…it has everything I might possibly need to know from the business side of things and then the rest of the book has everything for the practical part – not to mention the history of it. Who knew it has been a life art for so long?! Really looking forward to using all the directions, tips, and tricks I learned!

This book is incredibly well put together and covers a lot of ground without feeling overwhelming. There are so many different recipes already included in the book that you are well set to start making and selling your homemade soaps. In addition to the countless recipes this book provides there is a bit of history on how soaping making came to be that I found very interesting. What is particularly helpful though in this book is the advice it gives on turning your passion and love for soap making into a business where you can actually make a profit. All in all a wonderful guide to the art and profit of soap making.
