*New Adult Paranormal Romance*

In the city that never sleeps the Chronicles continue…

Serving coffee is temporary, just like Casey's year off from school. She’s going to come up with a plan to stay in New York City and go back to college, and that plan does not involve dating a paranormal creature—let alone two.

Running the supernatural society of New York is not as fun as it sounds, especially when you still have to answer to your ex-girlfriend’s fiancé. Toby doesn’t mean to bring Casey into the chaos of his life, but he can't resist the girl who makes him smile when he thought no one else ever could.

Jared's in New York checking out a security risk for his best friend, the king. He plans to return to New Orleans quickly, but not if it means losing his chance with the brunette who pretends she wants nothing to do with him.

In over her head with a bunch of winged creatures who most definitely are not angels, Casey has to figure out who to trust with her life and maybe her heart.

I instantly fell in love with the cover for this book when I saw

I instantly fell in love with the cover for this book when I saw it, and I didn't even read the synopsis before I dived at the chance to read it. I'm pleased to report that this story was as amazing as the cover.

This book had everything I love about paranormal romances, but with a unique set of characters that kept the story alive from start to finish. It was great to read about a different type of para-being from the norm. I don't think I've ever read a story with sexy bird men before but this one definitely made our feathered friends a whole lot more appealing. I loved how the Pteron species was further divided into the different bird species, making them alike but with their own unique qualities.

I thought this was going to be another "human girl finds herself in a para love triangle" (which I love, don't get me wrong) but I was pleasantly surprised by the twist thrown in at the end, and I'm dying to see what is going to happen with that little revelation.

I LOVED Jared. Toby not so much. I really tried to like him because I wanted him to find his happy ever after, but he just didn't do it for me. Jared was fun and exciting, and I love a guy who knows how to flirt and knows what he wants. At times Toby was a little awkward, whereas Jared was all smoldering bad boy. I do have to say, though, that I found Casey's sudden change of heart a little confusing. She was all for Toby and probably would have still been, even after her encounter with Jared in the prison cell, if Nelly hadn't opened her mouth. Which makes me wonder, why did Nelly stick her nose in their business?? Hmm, there's definitely a story there.

Another thing I was a little confused about was the constant mention about Toby's relationship, or lack thereof, with Allie, and events that happened in the past. I started to get the feeling that I was missing something, like maybe there was a prequel to this story that I hadn't read or something. I then found out that Allie's story is a kind of companion series to The Empire Chronicles called, The Crescent Chronicles. Not that it threw me off completely, because it really made no difference to the Soar plotline, but I was highly intrigued by what had happened in the past, so I'm adding all three books in The Crescent Chronicles to my TBR list so I can catch up on some back story.

This book was fresh and unique. It was fun, filled with romance, adventure and action. PNR fans will have a blast with this book and I cannot wait for more in this series.

The Crescent Chronicles series by Alyssa Rose Ivy is one of my f

The Crescent Chronicles series by Alyssa Rose Ivy is one of my favorites. I loved the crazy world of the Pterons and I didn't want to stop reading about The Society or the characters. So, when I heard that the author wasn't finished with the Pterons and that there would be another series, I WAS SO EXCITED! Plus, I'd heard that Jared would make an appearance and that he would be one of the main characters. *happy dances* Oh, how I love that sexy bad boy!

Okay, so by the start of this novel, Levi has taken over as King and Toby's been given the New York sector to be the boss of, taking the place of his grandfather. He's still heartbroken over Allie choosing Levi, and now his city is being attacked by wolves and bears. Not the real animals, but shifters. Shifters who think the king is weak and want to get everyone's attention. These shifters are out for blood, and they think it's time for the Pterons to step down.

But I'm getting ahead of myself here. Much of the beginning revolves around the developing relationship between Toby and Casey. I still had love/hate feelings for Toby because of what he'd done in the last series, but he did grow on me. However, I was already biased for this "love triangle" because I love Jared. A lot. But I did like the friendship between Toby and Casey. However, I didn't expect that fast of a turnaround for the romance. I want more development between these relationships in book two.

Now, I loved the characters. Casey is sweet, sassy, and totally kickass. When she learns about the Pterons and that there are shifters, it doesn't scare her. In fact, she doesn't find it frightening at all (and there's a pretty big reason why). And, like I said, I had a love/hate relationship with Toby. He's done some pretty awful things, yet he's also redeemed himself by protecting the women he cares about. I found myself liking him this time around. And last but not least: Jared. I loved him in the first series; I was SO EXCITED when the author announced that he would have a bigger role to play in The Empire Chronicles. I love his humor and how he takes care of the people he loves. I was also so glad to see the other Pteron members present! Levi, Allie, Owen, and Hailey. It was nice to see this gang of friends back together again. They love to tease each other, and they also make sure to take care of each other. It was nice to read about their tight friendship again, and the additions of Casey and Toby were great, too. Even if it's still awkward for them.

This plot had so many twists, ones I wasn't expecting at all! That ending has me so intrigued for the next book, and I'm excited to see what happens to these characters as the series progresses. Soar was full of a wonderful plot, lovable characters, and an intriguing world of animal shifters.

'Soar' is the first book in a fabulous New Adult paranormal roma

'Soar' is the first book in a fabulous New Adult paranormal romance series. It follows our leading lady, Casey, as she struggles with her boring job serving coffee, all while trying to save money to return to NYU. Enter in Toby - the gorgeous and sad guy who gets coffee from Casey daily - and Jared - the Pteron king's best friend who's visiting from New Orleans. Casey soon finds herself stuck between two guys - and ones that aren't even human at that. She must figure out which of the two she's ready to trust with not only her life, but her heart.

Having read several of the author's book before, I knew before even starting that this was going to be an awesome read. The characters were realistic and easy to identify with - especially Casey with her determination to stand on her own two feet as an adult and her willingness to do what she must to return to college. She has her flaws along with her strengths, which just made me like her more. Toby and Jared are both gorgeous supernatural guys, so naturally a love triangle/fight occurs between them all. I don't really like love triangles, but the author didn't make it the main focus of the book - so I didn't mind it. I enjoyed watching how Casey's relationships with both guys grew and how she adjusted to their world. The Pteron characters in the book are also from another series by the author, so I loved getting to know more about them and the Pterons in this new book. I'm hoping that we'll get to know even more about their history, society, and the other paranormal aspects that were just hinted at in the next book. The writing was very well done with an effortless flow and a natural pace. It had me almost immediately immersed in the world that the author created right alongside Casey. The chapters are told from different characters viewpoints - those of Casey, Toby, and Jared. I liked getting inside all of their heads to see what was really going on - what they were thinking and feeling. That type of writing really gives the reader a personal look at each of the characters on their own. Naturally, I am already wanting the next book to be released - but until then, I highly recommend this book to fans of paranormal romance and New Adult/Mature YA fiction. This is an author, and a new series, that you don't want to miss out on!

Disclosure: I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Soar is the first book in the Empire Chronicles by Alyssa Rose I

Soar is the first book in the Empire Chronicles by Alyssa Rose Ivy. This new series takes place in the same world as the Crescent Chronicles. While the focus is no longer on Allie and Levi, you still get to see them and many of the other characters we know and love. We are introduced to new characters as well. There is something going on among the other shifters. A rebellion maybe. There was a twist or two thrown in too. While this is a stand alone series, I'm glad I read the Crescent Chronicles before hand. I like knowing the history and back story of many of the characters. I'm so glad we didn't have to permanently say good bye to this world with the ending of the Crescent Chronicles. I could live in this world. This is a wonderful start to a new series! I'm anxious for more!! The ARC of Soar by Alyssa Rose Ivy was provided to me by Inkslinger PR for review. The opinions are my own.

It's no secret that I am a huge Alyssa Rose Ivy fan. One of my favorite series that she has written is The Crescent Chronicles. I was thrilled to find out that Alyssa Rose Ivy was writing a spin-off series based on The Crescent Chronicles and have been anxiously awaiting it's release. In Soar, book one in The Empire Chronicles, we get to know some of the secondary characters that we originally met in The Crescent Chronicles really well. The main characters in Soar are Toby, who I really grew to like in this novel, then there is Jared, yes girls and he remains quite the heartthrob, we also meet Casey Bates, the newest addition to the story, and Casey finds herself right in the middle of these two hotties with both Toby and Jared vying for her attention. The story takes place in New York, but they do visit good ole New Orleans, and Levi and Allie play important roles in this novel. We also get to see a little of Owen and Hailey. Toby is now running New York City for Levi, who is now the King. When attacks by the Bears and Wolves, who are also shifters, start to draw to much attention, Toby knows it needs to be handled and reluctantly calls on Levi, who in turn dispatches his head of security, Jared, to look into things.

Casey works in the local coffee shop, which Toby frequently visits, and somehow she has managed to land herself right in the middle of all that is going on. There are also a lot of things about Casey that are revealed as the story progresses, as more and more secrets regarding her past, who she is, and exactly what that means comes to light, much of which Casey was completely unaware of. Toby really likes Casey, and she likes him to, but Jared also really likes Casey, and Casey is has the hots for Jared also. This puts her and them in a rather precarious situation. I must say that I've had a really hard time choosing which guy to root for, though I'll have to say I'm really pretty much leaning toward Team Jared. There is quite the plethora of events that take place throughout the book that are hot, dangerous, and pivotal points in the story as it progresses. The romance is hot, of course, as are the guys, especially Jared. Soar also has plenty of action and excitement that keep you on the edge of your seat and turning the pages. There is a huge revelation at the end of the book that will leave you dying for the next book. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Soar and I love where Alyssa Rose Ivy has taken and is taking the characters in this story. I also loved being able to see the characters from The Cresecent Chronicles and find out what's going on in their lives. Alyssa Rose Ivy delivers yet another outstanding paranormal story that is creative, action-packed, and romantic all wrapped up in one that will keep you turning the pages to find out what happens next, and longingly waiting to find out where she will take this story and the characters in it next.

    This is a must read!

From the moment I stepped into Ivy's world of shifters and Pteron in FLIGHT I was a goner. I think it has been my most favorite shifter series ever so far. I loved Levi like no other. But all good things have to end, right? Wrong. Ivy, being the brilliant and oh so crafty author she is, gave us another crack at these wonderful characters...all in a genius spin off series. Could the Empire Chronicles rival the Crescent Chronicles? Oh yes it can and it did. I think I might have enjoyed it more than I did the first series. How is that possible? I don't know, it just is.

I am going to be honest with you...SOAR is a love triangle story. I know some of you out there hate that sort of thing. And honestly, I don't know what to tell you. I absolutely loved it. It kept things interesting and you were never sure who Casey would end up with. I am sitting here typing this out and after finishing it the story, after that wild ending, I am still not 100% sure she will stay with who she ends up with. But I am loving what the author is giving us and I will gladly take it. Because however which way you look at it, whoever Casey ends up with is going to be a good pick. Both guys are sweet and endearing…in their own way, of course.

    ***
“I’m not going to hurt you, Casey. I’m not going to pretend I’m the safest guy for you to be around, but I won’t let anything happen to you.”
“Is that your way of saying you’re dangerous too?”
    “Possibly.”
    ***

Throughout the book we get 3 different POV's: Casey, Toby, and Jared. You all remember Toby and Jared right? Well after being able to get a little closer to Toby, I don't loathe him like I did in the first series. I really do like him. Of course I adore Jared too, but I am just not sure he is the right person for Casey. I think his character is maturing as the story progresses, so he couldn’t be totally wrong for her. But I am still on the fence. I do however think Casey is a great gal and I liked who she is and what she brings to the story. She can be a bit of a character but all in all I liked her. I look forward to what will happen in the next book with her. Something big is about to happen and she is smack dab in the middle of it all.

I know when Ivy writes a story I am going to love it. But there is just something about this series (and the spin off) that is so very addicting. I will actually crave it while waiting for more. Almost as if her words are a written spell or a drug of sorts. Absolutely addictive.

While reading SOAR, I think enough is explained of the previous series, that you don't necessarily have to read it before this one. But I would absolutely recommend it. It was a fabulous series that you'd be missing out on if you bypass it. So keep that in mind. But, yes...I wholeheartedly recommend SOAR to all you NA lovers out there.
