The Games of District 3 -- Part 1

This is going to be part one, and an entry for the story contest. If you can guess what my pen name on the nook REALLY is, then you get a gold star! xD So, now that I've got your attention, I'll start the story, which, if you haven't inferred, is a Hunger Games fanfiction.--- Everything starts at the reaping. I only have my name twice on the ballot, so the odds are 'ever in my favor', to quote Effie Trinket, who draws the names of all the tributes. Where are my manners? I'm Jayrow Williams. Jay, if you prefer. But don't ever call me Jacquelin, or you'll get pounded. I'm 13 years old. This is my first reaping, as I was ill for the first one when I was 12. I haven't taken any tesserae, as my older brother, Yahtzee(his real name is Yancy), signed up for all of the tesserae and forbade me to take any. I know he cares about me, but sheesh. My friend, Dusty, sits beside me as I glance up at the stage, where Effie's waiting for everyone to silently file in. Dusty's 13, same as me. He has sandy colored hair, and these piercing blue eyes with silver flecks. We laugh at the flecks, because we both have them. My eyes are green with amber ones. I blow the stray red hairs out of my face. Effie clears her throat, and in that clipped Capitol accent, announces, "Welcome to the 71st annual Hunger Games, and may the odds be ever in your favor!" She allows the slightest pause, then continues to say, "Ladies first!" as in one sweeping motion she heads towards the enormous glass ball packed with thousands of paper slips. Two of them are mine. I can hear the crinkling as she unfolds the paper then clears her throat once more. My pulse is rushing. My heart is pounding. I'm short of breath. "Jacquelin Williams." I almost faint. I can't do this. Nope. I look to my brother, Yahtzee. He's on the verge of tears. He can't do this either. "Jacquelin Williams," Effie says once again. Some of the peacekeepers are shuffling, ready to take action "Come on, Jayrow," Dusty says, obviously trying no to cry. "Be strong." "You're right, Dusty," I say. I raise my hand, and announce out loud, "That would be me."--- story by Leafblaze, (who is known by another name on the nook that you have to guess.)
