Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Phyllis Kennemer
The five students in the "After School Sports Club" were excited about learning to play soccer. Mr. Mac gave each of them a ball and the kids were soon kicking balls everywhere. Four of the children were able to kick the ball into the net consistently, but Sammy was not doing so well. His balls always went to the side, above, or around the net. Sammy was worried about the upcoming open house because he thought his dad would be disappointed in him, but his dad told him it was important to just do his best. Sammy kept practicing and when the parents came for the open house, he kicked a goal. His dad was very proud of him. Colorful, cartoon-like illustrations capture the mood of the text. This is a good choice for sports-minded beginning readers. It is in the "Ready to Read" series. Reviewer: Phyllis Kennemer, Ph.D.
