This eighth edition describes many new studies performed during the past five years, but retains older research to reflect the continuity of the field. textbook

A required textbook for my interpersonal behavior class. So far it has been good. Easy to understand, and lots of thinking while reading. It is being republished and some parts were edited every year to keep updated. so always get the newest one....

    Excellent Material

This book was used as the sole text for the Social Psychology course I am currently enrolled in. It has been a refreshing change to the dry, complex, formula textbooks in other courses. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, as the examples and descriptions clarify the terminology and bring more understanding of the content. It is also cleverly written, which makes it more fun to pick up and explore. I will be keeping this book!

    Great stuff

I am a psychology student, and haven't had a chance to get into too many psych books yet, however, this one has been great! I understood it well, and learned a lot, even though our instructor used the book minimally in class. Also, to reply to the reviewer from 2000, the editing 'probems' that were noted are non-existent in my copy.

    One of the best !!

The Social animal is one of the best socialpsycology books in existance, a must read for anyone wanting insight into the how and why of people. The editors may have messed up on this edition... but previous 'blue cover' ones are good to go. This book is worth the 'investment' of time to read it.

    Good book, awful edition

The book is very good, describing clearly the theories and experiments. On some cases, however, the description of the experiments is rather weak and doesn't seem to contribute to the ratification of the theory (in some cases is actually just the opposite). But this is not the rule, and the book is really worth reading. What is really bad is the edition. It seems that somebody just typed it in Word and printed it without any though. The italic face is really annoying (see page 287 where there is no spacing whatsoever between the italic 'itself' and the following roman 'did'). Interword spacing is all but consistent - check out the fisrt line of the second paragraph at page 354. And there are many more annoyances that make reading this book not as good as it could be. Shame on the editors, a really bad job that brings the book rating from 5 stars to 4.
