Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
After taking Tinseltown by storm in Sock Monkey Goes to Hollywood: A Star Is Bathed, the tweedy star now seeks a dance partner for the Big Celebrity Dance in Sock Monkey Boogie-Woogie: A Friend Is Made by Cece Bell. After the auditions he holds go bust, the hero literally makes his own dancing buddy. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
Children's Literature
Sock Monkey can hardly wait for the Big Celebrity Dance. It is coming up in just a few days, but he has a problem. All of his friends are out of town. Who will he dance with? The sign he places on a telephone pole advertising for a partner brings lots of responses, but none of the toys that come can dance well. The robot is too clunky. The windup mouse is too small. The stuffed giraffe is too tall. When Sock Monkey receives some gifts from his vacationing friends, he thinks of a solution. First, he cuts the buttons off the sweater sent by Miss Bunn. Then he unravels it to make a big ball of yarn. The socks sent by Blue Pig are enormous and just right to be cut down the backs and sewn together with some of the yarn. He stuffs his creation with the cotton sent by Froggie, puts the buttons on as eyes, knits a cap with the remaining yarn, and, viola, he has a new sock friend. Sock Buddy agrees to take dancing lessons and he learns quickly. He has to overcome his shyness to go to the dance, but he goes and they have a good time. When Sock Monkey's friends return, they are happy to meet a new friend. A fun read aloud for young children, especially if a sock monkey is around. 2004, Candlewick Press, Ages 3 to 6.

Meet the Author

Cece Bell is the author-illustrator of SOCK MONKEY GOES TO HOLLYWOOD: A STAR IS BATHED. Of SOCK MONKEY BOOGIE-WOOGIE, she says, "I had so much fun drawing Sock Monkey's fancy dance moves — picturing him shimmying the night away really made me laugh my head off. Sock Monkey is vain enough to think that he is the World's Greatest Dancer, and I agree!" Cece Bell lives with the real-life Sock Monkey and his friends, along with two dogs, one son, and her husband. She likes any dance that involves shouting the words "CHA CHA CHA!"
