Editorial Reviews

Criticas
In this semi-autobiographical account of her colorful, nomadic life, Puig de Lange chronicles her work as a journalist and fashion editor, sharing her personal reflections on contemporary Latin America. Born in Ecuador, Puig de Lange helped shape fashion journalism throughout the continent, first as a columnist for the women's magazine Vanidades and later as editor-in-chief of the international Spanish-language version of Harper's Bazaar. Her articles spoke to the importance of creativity and quality among fashion designers worldwide, and brought the industry respect in her country and those neighboring it. Here, Puig de Lange reflects on changes in Latin American cultures, blended as they are with the lingering influences of mystical legends and folklore, personified by the tragic histories of the continent's 20 republics. She also describes her life in prominent social circles-among political leaders, movie stars, and international personalities. In animated prose and description, Puig de Lange shares intimate details, humorous anecdotes, and memories. Complemented by photographs, the text is well formatted and easy to read. Recommended as a secondary purchase for large public libraries and academic libraries supporting graduate studies in journalism, fashion design, or Latin American social history. -Sylvia D. Hall-Ellis, Univ. of Denver, CO Copyright 2003 Cahners Business Information.
