Soldier of Love is only the sixth studio album the band Sade have released during their 25 year career, and the first since Lovers Rock in 2000. For Sade herself, as the lynchpin of the group's songwriting effort, it's a simple matter of integrity and authenticity. "I only make records when I feel I have something to say. I'm not interested in releasing music just for the sake of selling something. Sade is not a brand."

The feel of the music this time has moved away from the old country soul styling of Lovers Rock and assumes a more eclectic identity. At times the band sounds like the original Sade, with Stuart Matthewman back blowing soft sax on "In Another Time" and the vocal on "Long Hard Road" hymning. But with songs such as the joyously quirky reggae chant "Babyfather" and the dramatically arranged album opener "The Moon and the Sky," Sade are exploring new territory. "I never want to repeat myself," Sade herself says. "And that becomes a more interesting challenge for us the longer we carry on together."

Sade is an artist experienced in engaging the pop music listener completely, especially within the purest sexual context of a male hearing the siren call of a female voice so alive, so vital, that it grips the soul, the libido, and the body; it transforms her simple words into the poetry of the soul. Sade's art shows great vigor, courage, and aggressiveness. Its positive, throbbing rhythm takes various forms, but settles into a familiar and welcomed sound scape of warmth and deep breathing anticipation. I love Sade. Buy this CD.

I've been a loyal fan of Sade since they're/her debut, so when I write of the low points about the new album, I do it out of respect. Soldier Of Love is definitely a project of love for the entire band. With each album Sade released, the project was presented with such a theatrical energy I felt I could get involved with the songs. Sade herself exploded with deep seeded emotion as she belted out the ballads. The more uptempo tracks were instant classics. Today it seems that the fire has simmered down to a smolder. That's not saying Soldier Of Love is a bad album, it's just not the emotional thrill ride her previous albums once were. And the party has long dissipated from the R&B tracks. For the new disc, two openers The Moon And The Sky and title track Soldier Of Love are obvious Sade signatures, dramatic and thematic. However I feel these tracks are just a backward glance to the Love Deluxe and Stronger Than Pride era. Each track after that seems to lilt along without a care. They become too carefree and breezy, that they seem like filler or fluff. The impeccable song writing and lyrics are present, the energy is not there to back those lyrics like it should. The new album is a definite step away from the norm for Sade yet the spark has gone out of the flame. I miss the Sade of yesterday. I needed that energy back. I still have love for for this new project; for her and her top notch band.

WARNING!!! WARNING!!! DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT GO NEAR THE NEW SADE ALBUM. I own all of her albums. Big Big Big Big Big fan. This new album is garbage. It's depressing, whiny, makes me what to find out who hurt her so badly... so I can hit 'em. Did she spend all her money so she was forced to produce this crap? This may be the worst album ever made. It's literally painful to listen to it. Download it if you don't believe me. I too thought Sade could do no wrong. I'm so hurt and disappointed that she has her name attached to this crap. I waited all these years and this is what she puts out. What a shame! I cry for her, I cry for me; but, if you buy it, I won't cry for you because you have been warned.

We were a little disappointed in this CD -- especially after the long wait. It's definitely worthwhile if you're a Sade fan, but not quite what we were hoping for.

Sade is back and stronger than ever. Soldier of Love is simply fierce. If you like the song you must also check out the video. This CD is totally worth the 10 year wait. You will not be disappointed.

Even though it has been 10 years since Sade put out a CD this was worth the wait. I feel that this entire CD will be a hit with all Sade fans. I only hope she will not leave us for another 10 years before we can hear good music!!!

Where have you been, the world has been waiting on you. This music is LOVE at it's best. Believe me this is not danceable music, it Bedroom music and I know everyone knows exactly what I mean. The cut, "Soldier of Love" OMG, this does it all for me. You are better than ever, there ARE no other words!!! This has been well worth waiting for, just don't take so long for us to get the next one...

Sade never ceases to deliver soulful, evocative music. This CD is classic Sade and yet transcends all previous efforts. The sound is timeless and worth every minute of the nine year wait.

This is not like her other releases. After all my excitement that a new release was coming out I ended up disapointed. I could not even say I like 1 song on this release .....what a let down. Sade needs to go back to what she is known for!

SADE is back with the first new album in nearly a decade, and as always, good things are worth waiting for...Her voice is undiminished and the songwriting and muscianship is top-notch. It's a soulful creation; the lyrics poetically rich and the music understated and poignant. I really do like the album, but it's a tad bit mellow and too-slow-grooving. After all these years, and with the previous album being 'mega-mellow', I was really hoping for a return to the upbeat pop-jazz sound of their 80's least in part. Alas, it's not to be. A great album nonetheless.

It is difficult to imagine anyone making as boring and monotonous of a CD if they tried. Listened to it once and tossed it in the trash where it belongs.

Sades Soldier of Love, is the best album of 2010 thus far, fans like me have been waiting for nearly 10 years for new material, and finally it has arrived, I'm so excited, there are many many great songs on this new album, that are moving, and soulful. The melodies are great, and cohesion of the album is always with the group very lovely. I recommend this album.

I saw an interview with Sade and she explained why it had been 10 years since her last album. She indicated that she only composes when she feels the need and really has something to say. It is obvious when you listen to this album. There is not a single bad song or bit of filler which is consistent with all of her work. The music is absolutely beautiful and the lyrics extremely profound. I can listen to this album over and over for days and not ever get tired of it. If you enjoy any of her music then "Soldier of Love" is a necessary element of your collection.

Sade does it again. Another Hit! Soldier of Love is a fantastic piece of work meeting the Sade tradition with her stimulating different sound. Although it is not a great as her last album "Lovers Rock" It is still a fantastic listening adventure. I can hardly wait for her next album if she produces one. Great Listening!

This is a wonderful compilation of deeply moving songs which tap into our inner feelings and emotions. Sade explores the hurt and joy that so many have experienced navigating the treacherous waters of love. Sade's voice is in full form, with her haunting, lyrical mastery compelling you to experience the story each song tells. The title track, "Soldier of Love," sums up the feelings of many who have been hurt by love or the pursuit of it.

I have been listening to Sade since "Love Deluxe" in 1992! Her music is classic as well as she. Even though it's been 8 years since last album, it didn't stop me from running to the stores when Soldier of Love came out! What can I say, another great one! ;)

WOW! Not one bad song on this CD. SADE continues to remain in her "element"--singing about pain and matters of the heart. In spite of it all, in every song, there lies a glimpse of hope. There is not an emotion she doesn't touch as she wrings her heart out. This Artist remains one of my favorites. She truly is a "Soldier!"

Sade is one of the best in the business. We have all of her CD's and anxiously awaited this new one to add to our collection. I don't know really how to quantify this CD ... only to say that it's definitely worth the investment.
