Although this is the first book in a 4 book SciFi saga, it is in itself a complete war novel written by a Gulf War veteran. It is the story of a young man and his comrades that bear the brunt of the horrors of modern warfare. It is gritty, real and compelling. It is also humorous in the sense that soldiers, despite their terrible condition, apply humor to almost everything. The amazing aspect of this novel -even as it could stand alone- is that it is the platform for the books that follow. Luckily the next book is now out. Very good read.
