Overview

He can find a use for his lover’s hands…except when he needs help the most.

Kellen is short on cash—at least until his first novel starts to sell—but he has plenty of friends. None of them, unfortunately, share his love of books. For that he turns to IM chats with Mike from his online book group.

Though he manages to coax the shy, socially inept pathologist into a real-time meeting, Kellen has no intention of letting his new friend become more than a casual lover. Shaky finances and ailing mother aside, self-sufficiency is Kellen’s prime directive.

Mike considers himself a nerd of the highest order—short, bespectacled, prone to blurting out the wrong thing at the worst possible time. Meeting Kellen face to face is the biggest risk of his life, and he wonders if they’ll get more body parts together than just their faces.

First meeting leads to first date—first everything for Mike—and soon Kellen’s faced with breaking his just-friends-with-benefits rule. Yet as his elderly mother wanders deeper into senility, Kellen wonders if it’s better to lean on Mike rather than fall.

Warning: Contains an emotional love story between a too-proud-for-his-own-good writer with allergy to the L-word, and a painfully shy scientist who takes his sisters’ nagging to “get out there” literally. Oh, and an adorable stray cat.

Having just “survived” the decline of elderly parent myself, this story really resonated with me. The physical and mental drain on a person dealing with this situation is all too real, and so is the support that can be gained by a partner. Good story!

Kaje Harper has become one of my favorite go-to authors when I need a good read about good people falling in love (especially two lovable, hot males falling in love). Her character development always makes the characters seem real and her stories are well developed and pleasurable. This story is no exception. Perfectly imperfect characters, engaging story and hot sex!

Kellan and Mike are memorable characters enmeshed in a family problem that could affect any of us. I enjoyed this novel and stayed up late to finish it. The supporting cast of characters, all rooting for Kellan and Mike to get together, were the type of people anyone would want behind them in life. I did find Kellan to be a bit obtuse when it came to his relationship with Mike, and thought he carried out his "secret" a bit too long.

~Reviewed by ANN & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog SOLE SUPPORT is a story about two men trying to find out how the puzzle pieces of their life will fit together. It’s about making decisions, taking advice from family and friends but listening to your heart in the end. ~ Under the Covers Kaje Harper has a gem in on her hands. SOLE SUPPORT was one of those books that I had grinning from ear to ear as I read. There was something special about Kellan and Mike. Kellan is an author who is working on a manuscript he hopes to sell soon. As decisions on that plague him, he finds comfort and a little distraction in his IM messages with Mike. Mike is a shy pathologist who is coaxed slowly out of his shell by Kellan. As their IM chats continue to get more and more flirty, I found myself rooting for these two like a cheerleader at a football game. Their first meeting has the usual first date fumbles but it acts at a blooming point for their relationship. That first jump is crucial for the both of them because now they know that that spark is there without the computer screen to act as a barrier. There is a touch of angst, but I think the cute moments between Kellan and Mile overshadow that. There is more good than bad in this case and it certainly makes this book better. SOLE SUPPORT is a story about two men trying to find out how the puzzle pieces of their life will fit together. It’s about making decisions, taking advice from family and friends but listening to your heart in the end. I would recommend this book. *ARC provided by publisher
