Overview

A young woman has been murdered in River City. Police Detective John Tower is assigned to the case but there are few clues to go on. As he digs into the case, he's soon picking up hints that this murder may not be the killer's first ... or his last.

Virgil Kelly lives in the shadowy world of the criminal underground. He's just arrived in River City with a single-minded mission: find his daughter's killer and bury him.

In his search for a murderer, Tower uses his experience and training along with all the expertise of modern forensics.

In the hunt for his prey, Kelley uses intimidation and violence, tools which he wields with precision and anger.

Virgil Kelley and John Tower are on a collision course. Somebody is going to die.

River City will never be the same.

Warning: Graphic Violence This plot was alright but I had to skip over a lot of pages due to graphic descriptions of violence (one described a violent act on a dog, also)/ I found the detectives lack of morals disturbing. I wouldn't recommend it unless you like Quentin Tarrnatino movies or other violent things.

223 pages. Well edited. Smooth flow. Well written. Good plot and mystery. Profanity, murder, viloence. This book is very graphic. Disturbingly so. Much of it is unneeded. I would have given this book five stars if the violence had not been so over the top. I started skipping these parts. Other than that, this was an excellant read. Lots of action and moved at a rapid pace. It was hard to put down. This book is for adults. It is more for men then women, although I enjoyed it. It is stand alone. I felt unsettled after I finished it. From the over view, I surmissed it is part of a series. I like hard core, noir, murder, detective/ police mysteries but this one is a bit much for me and I am unsure about purchasing the others. AD

Some Degree of Murder by Frank Zafiro and Colin Conway couldn't have a better title. There are so many implications just in the name. Everything is a matter of degrees. All things are relative to where you are at any given point in your life. There is always some good within bad and some bad within good. Sometimes good intentions cause people to do bad things, sometimes bad people do things that are actually good, sometimes bad things happen to good people, and sometimes bad things that are done are actually for the good of everyone. The characters alone personify the degrees of good and bad that makes us human. A mother seeking vengeance for a daughter brutally raped and killed. A absentee father trying to do right by his child because of his career choice. A cop who toes the line of right and wrong so often that's only a minute step to crossing over the threshold permanently. Prostitutes and strippers trying to survive on the streets, but wanted to do the right thing for one of their own. The streets themselves teeming with people stereotyping all the "bad" people: biker gang, pimps, drug dealers, etc. Some Degree of Murder entertainingly examines people, what human nature is, and just what people will do when they're pushed right to the edge of a cliff, whether it's anger, grief, greed, or simple survival. Once someone takes that final step over the edge, there's no telling how far they'll fall, and all their decisions are relative (a degree) of where they're currently at.

Great book. I really enjoyed it. Who do you root for? The cop investigating the murder of two young prostitutes or the "bad guy" who is looking for his daughter's killer? Read the book to find out what happened.

Slow moving, but a clever suspence filled story. By the end I felt sorry for cop, the executioner and, of course, the victims.

Nicely written mystery book. The characters come to life and sometime you are left wondering what will happen next. It is a good read.

Colin and Frank used a quite different style to pursue a strong story line in this book which has police doing a straight murder investigation racing the clock against a revenge killer who wants to find the same criminal culprit FIRST. For more than half the book, the plot and story-line are quite similar to dozens of other mystery-police-revenge stories, but the second half has some really great action, gruesome descriptions that get the heart pumping, and basic storyline which keeps the whole plot together. This one grabs the reader by the throat (so to speak) and dares the reader to put the book down without having the temptation to pick it up again quickly to continue. Although I'm not a big fan of such gruesome creativity, Colin and Frank do a good job in making it palatable. The ending has just enough twists to make you want to keep reading. I'm not a big fan of books like this, but I couldn't put it down, once I got into the second half. Nice job, guys.
