It's the role of a lifetime…

Living out of a car and waiting tables to make ends meet is hardly the stuff of fairy tales. So when a gorgeous man approaches Alyx Dagmar with a wild story about her royal lineage and an even wilder proposition, the aspiring actress is sure he's got the wrong woman.

Self-made billionaire Daniel Voldakov needs connections before he can expand his software business into Europe. A blue-blooded fiancée would open all the right doors—and Daniel's certain he can tempt the pretty but penniless Princess Alyxandretta to accept the part she was born to play.

Alyx can't resist Daniel's offer, and throws herself into the role. But as the paparazzi fall in love with their "storybook romance," Alyx finds herself drawn to Daniel in ways she'd never imagined. Are his returned affections true, or all just part of the plan? He'll do anything it takes to prove his love, and to make her see that the only happily ever after he wants is with her…the real her.

Meet the Author

Heather Long likes long walks in the park, science fiction, superheroes, Marines, and men who aren’t douche bags. Her books are filled with heroes and heroines tangled in romance as hot as Texas summertime. From paranormal historical westerns to contemporary military romance, Heather might switch genres, but one thing is true in all of her stories—her characters drive the books.

What every girl dreams of Heather Long writes about in her first book of The Going Royal series. Alyx Dagmar is a forgotten royal clueless of her heritage. A modern Princess Anastasia/My Fair Lady fairytale. Daniel comes to her with an outrageous scheme and despite her reluctance she agrees. Can Alyx pull off the role of a lifetime and convince everyone she’s royal? Daniel found her at last the woman to fulfill his needs; a Royal Princess to seal the deal and she is clueless of her heritage to boot. Wonderful news for Daniel and he exploits her desire to become an actress with international coverage she can’t resist. But can he keep his heart and his head in their place? Heather Long creates a wonderful journey into love between two dynamic characters who have fun getting there. I enjoyed the My Fair Lady aspect when Alyx is being taught how to be a Princess. And I love Daniel and how he is her champion. If you want an enjoyable afternoon in a Princesses shoes, then this book is certainly for you.

As a long time Heather Long fan I knew I would like this book. What I didn't realize was how much I would love this series. Some Like It Royal is a fantastic first book to the series.  As soon as I finished I was begging to find out more about the other characters. Luckily, I had purchased the first book but hadn't gotten the chance to read it so I was able to get Some Like It Scandalous and Some Like It Deadly the same weekend.  I devoured  these books and was soon wanting for the next book Some Like It Secret. As always Heather Long delivers complex characters and an engrossing story that keeps you from putting the book down. I highly recommend this series for anyone who wants to be whisked away to a world of deadly intrigue and enchanting romance.

Heather Long takes every little girl's--and a good number of fully grown females, as well--fairy tale and puts her own twist to it. The result: a beautifully woven love story worthy of any long lost princess's fantasy.  What I really like about this book is, everything is right up front. Daniel needs Alyx's royal connections to land the account of the century, and he's willing to pay her to help him get it. Alyx, who is living out of her car in order to save cash for an acting class, is no push over. True, she doesn't believe him at first: if she was a long lost princess, whay hadn't her family stepped forward when she had needed them most? In the end, they come to an agreement. An engagement, and it has to appear real. In order to do that, they need to spend time together...like, really together. Like, moving into Daniel's home together. And there's Victor, Alyx's "princess tutor." I loved Victor, even if Daniel did have to step in and rescue her from him from time to time. Did I mention that one of the stipulations for Alyx's moving in was the "no sex clause?"  You're going to have to read the book to see what happens there! This is a great beginning to an exciting new series, and I can't wait to see what Heather has in store for us next. Could it be the hunky royal cousin? Oh, I hope so!

As a big fan of Heather Long I was thrilled to be given an ARC by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review and was not disappointed.  This is a full length contemporary fairy tale.  In this modern day Cinderella the prince is a self-made man software billionaire who has lifted himself up and out of the trailer park and onto the international corporate stage.  Our Cinderella is an orphaned actress who is living in her car to save up enough to go to an immersion acting class.  Our hero finds her and convinces her to help him break into the European market using her royal heritage.  She finally agrees but doesn’t count on falling for him.  I love that she isn’t easy and doesn’t jump on the billionaire band wagon.  I thoroughly enjoyed this tale.  Sometimes sweet, at times painfully sad but always with a sense of humor this take on an old trope is well worth the read.  It doesn’t seem to matter what genre Heather long writes, it comes down to the fact that she tells a darn good story and I look forward to more in this series and from this author.

Some Like It Royal has everything needed to put me right into that feel good frame of mind. I absolutely adored Alyx and her suspicion of Daniel when she first meets him, because really, any heroine that just instantly believes a man who says she’s a long lost princess needs her head examined. The quips exchanged between these two are some of the funniest I’ve read in a long time. Daniel is persistent, and obviously unprepared for how living in close quarters with someone he finds so attractive can lead to so much more. I enjoyed the twists and turns their relationship took as it wound its way around to a beautiful happily ever after, and believe me it’s beautiful, I totally cried at the end. I love some of the stunts Daniel pulls and one of my favorite lines came from one of those moments. ““You son of a b*tch." Yep. That definitely wasn't in the script.”” With lines like that, I could easily see that there was a sense of humor on Ms. Long’s part and that she really enjoyed her characters and they were real to me, someone I could be friends with. I think one of the things that make this such a great book is the way that the language is used, its dialogue but it paints a picture of the characters. ““What's with the princess schtick? Do you think if you say it enough it will happen? Like Beetlejuice?”” I sat and just read, I couldn’t put down this book, I’ve even re-read it because this is easily one of my favorite books. I loved Alyx and Daniel and I look forward to more of these feel good and delicious reads from Ms. Long in the future. If she gives the rest of the characters even a fraction of the life she gave Alyx and Daniel, I know that I’ll love them just as much. Seriously pick this book up, if you enjoy The Princess Diaries and stories like Anastasia but with a modern and well written twist, then Some Like It Royal is just what you need for a feel good read that I can honestly say I’ll re-read again many times over.  I received a copy in exchange for my honest review. I was not compensated for my review.
