1995 Trade paperback Very good. No dust jacket as issued. no flaws, no marks, no soiling, no shelf wearbottom corner of cover teensiest bit bumped Trade paperback (US). Glued
binding. 32 p. The atist uses the the vocabulary of the family albumto construct a narrativ about discovering and constructing family. Like the treasured pictures in tese ubiquitous albums (the arrangement and annotations of which has traditionally been a woman's task. ) Flax's images, whether fixed on the wall or bound, are strictly ordered and specifically cadenced. Thus the viewer is moved from the repeated motif of the birth certificate to imags of childhood and of her mothers, in much the same way that the artist has moved through layersof knowledge and information to uncover the family she documents in this work. These layers are keyed to tlaismanic images which trigger, and may even substitute for specific memories.
