Trapt's self-titled 2002 debut went platinum and more on the strength of modern rock radio faves "Headstrong" and "Still Frame." The attraction was obvious -- the quartet's sound was a pristine blueprint of 21st century southern California proto-metal, the onslaught led by Incubus, Linkin Park, and Hoobastank, bringing the same blend of massaged post-grunge verses and knots of affected screaming and band saw guitar. Even their name, Trapt -- it read like market research, a monosyllabic summation of adolescent discontent, extreme sports, and jabs to the solar plexus. It's more of all of that on 2005's Someone in Control. But while Trapt still work inside their established formula, they also constrict it, so songs like "Disconnected (Out of Touch)," "Waiting," and "Influence" rip with more internal tension. "Lost Realist" is also strong. It's a little predictable, especially when the strings come in. But its meshing of Goo Goo Dolls plaintiveness with post-grunge crackle is a nice progression for the quartet.

"Stand Up," "Lost Realist," "Bleed Like Me," and Disconnected (Out of Touch)" were the only good songs on this album. 4. That's all. I really have to admit that this album was just plain bad. All the songs sounded alike and they didn't have the energy and the catchyness like their first album did. What happened to the good songs like "Enigma," "Headstrong," "New Beginning," "Stories," "Still Frame," "What is Said and Done," "Echo," and "The Game?" Those songs were amazing and that was only the debut album. Come on Trapt. No effort was really put. Same rock riffs, same original lyrics. Terrible, boring, dissapointing.
This is a hard rock cd that shows Trapt at their best. Could have released one softer song on this album like Echo from their previous album. Someone in Control shows the hard rock side of Trapt. Must Buy Album!
With the feature song "Stand Up" on the radio, i figured this cd would be a little harder than it is. Nothing here to seperate them from the rest. Need more originality.
The first time that I listened to this cd, I was like, eh, it's not as good as their last. Yet after listening more closely, I can't seem to take this cd out of my car! The song topics are a lot more personal and important than their previous. For instance, the song Skin Deep is about the kind of people who only date based on looks. Also, the song Influence is a song about people who are so influenced to do drugs just because someone else is doing them. All in all, I suggest you give this cd a shot.
This album is very good, not amazing like their previous album though. It shows that the band got a little caught up in the rock star lifestyle during the writting of this album. The # of album sales says it all. They need ground themselves before writting a third album. I would still recamend this album though, there is not enough rock out there today and Trapt is one of the best. Just step it up next time!!
