This one never grabbed me at all. I found it flat and dull, with a rather abrupt ending.

On first impression, Laura has the perfect job, the perfect husband and a perfect marriage but all is not what it seems and her life begins to unravel before her eyes following a series of “accidents” and “events” and those around her begin to question whether they have actually happened. At the same time you, the reader, start to question the other characters in the book as many seem to have a motive to make Laura’s life a misery. I usually like to give a brief outline of the main characters in a book but won’t on this occasion as to do so would give away some of the storyline and I don’t want to ruin it for anyone but would just like to say that the author has outdone herself on the creation of interesting and complex players in this book. The story is written at great pace from the start and flows from beginning to end interweaving the different points of view which, rather than being confusing, enhanced the story for me as it gave an insight into the motivations of each character. This also enabled clues from each person being dropped in but it’s only towards the end that they all come together in a thrilling climax. Overall, Someone Out There is a really enjoyable début novel full of suspense, tension, drama and intrigue with interesting characters and a great storyline and I look forward to reading more from this new author. Thank you to the Publisher, via NetGalley, for providing me with a copy in return for an unbiased and honest review.

Brilliant thriller! Love it! Wow – talk about a book that grabs your attention right from the first pages! Following Laura’s life, a successful lawyer who seems to have it all, was quite a journey. This book is one of the rare books when you just can’t guess the plot and this is exactly what makes the book so interesting to me. The question “Who wants Laura dead” kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole story. If you love drama, betrayal, revenge, unexpected twists and great writing – this thriller is perfect for you!

Laura's life on the outside seems perfect but little by little things happen and she startes to think someone is after her. Those around her, while supportive aren't really convinced. She has to deal with doubting herself and proving to the others in her life that this is real and she not losing it. This is a great book that took off like a horse race in the first chapter and did not slow slow down. The author does an excellent job of showing the pressure filled yet intriguing life of Laura with the introduction of several career shattering problems just in the first few pages of the book. This level of intensity doesn't really let up although it presents itself in different ways as the story goes along. I'm sure this book qualifies as an "edge of your seat" thriller. What made this book an interesting read for me was the deconstruction of Laura as the story progresses. The cover of the book is absolutely perfect because little by little her protective glass is cracked and we get to see a very vulnerable women, who for the first time in a long time doesn't know what to do to solve her problems.

Edge of your seat suspense… Five stars and highly recommended! Someone Out There is a classic suspense thriller and it is a stunning debut from Catherine Hunt. The first few chapters got me hooked, but as I reached the half way point Hunt had me eating out of the palm of her hand.  I simply could not put it down; I was desperate to find out what would happen next. The book itself is extremely well written with detailed characters and so many twists that I did not have any idea how it was going to conclude. The plot has been meticulously drawn and is faultless, eating into our own psychological fear of hidden threats and perceived dangers; this is thrilling suspense at its best. By the time I reached those closing chapters I could barely breathe, this was edge of your seat suspense and anxiety. The dramatic conclusion and the pure blind panic of the emergency call (I never include spoilers in any of my reviews but trust me you will not be disappointed!) This was one of those books that torments its reader, you cannot wait to find out how it will conclude, but at the same time you do not want to to end. I loved the parallel sub plot of Valentine, an allegory of Laura’s broken spirit and strength. Hunt weaved the two plots together seamlessly and brought the story full circle, closing with a just a hint of possibilities… Highly recommended and five stars is not enough!

SOMEONE OUT THERE by CATHERINE HUNT ............Laura Maxwell is a divorce attorney. Evidently someone really does not like her. In fact, they would like to see her dead. After two near-fatal accidents, she's beginning to feel a bit paranoid, as her husband, the police, even a good friend doesn't believe her. Is she truly in danger .. or is she delusional? There are plenty of people who don't like her for various reasons. Her boss has a problem because he doesn't feel that she covers his back side the way he wants. A co-worker was fired because Laura would not lie for her. That lie cost one woman her son, when her husband took him and fled the country. Another client is going through a divorce and feels that more should be done. And her husband, unknown to her, is having an affair. This was a gripping story showcasing all the characters with their flaws and fears and feelings of inadequacy. A couple of these surprised me .... didn't see a lot of things coming. And for that reason .. a very good read. I gave it a 4-star rating. For me, it would have been a 5 had it not been so closely reminiscent of a movie I saw several years ago. Thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins Publishers for furnishing an ARC in return for an honest and unbiased review.

The only disappointment I felt with this book, was finishing it I literally had to force myself to put it down and go to bed. Catherine Hunt is a wonderful British writer who has worked as a journalist and for the BBC. She weaves a thriller that revolves around a talented attorney, Laura, who is being terrorized by someone who clearly wants her dead. I connected to the characters and loved the twists and turns and how the story evolved. The end of the book does not disappoint. I surely hope this author continues to write and has another book out in the near future!
