Overview

NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author Kathryn Shay creates a world of politics, gangs and her forte--the problems of teenagers. This is the first of five in The O'Neils series!

"SOMEONE TO BELIEVE IN is a wonderfully written, emotional and extraordinary read and truly deserves a five-star rating." Affaire de Coeur

Bailey O'Neil, aka, the Street Angel, has been the arch enemy of Senator Clay Wainwright since he was a district attorney and she a young, idealistic social worker with four Irish older brothers who watch out for her. Clay put her in jail for harboring a teen offender and eleven years later, she's a thorn in his side as an anti-gang specialist trying to get kids out of gangs. While Clay wants to put them in the hands of law enforcement, Bailey is determined to help these troubled teenagers make good lives for themselves. But when Bailey and Clay are thrown together, the impossible happens--they're attracted to each other. Both the Street Angel and the Senator must find a way to deal with their differences in order to make a life together.

Praise for SOMONE TO BELIEVE IN:
"Once again, Shay shines in this starkly realistic story of gang members and people involved in prevention and intervention programs. Shay pulls no punches when describing brutal events, and secondary characters, including Clay's environmentalist son, Bailey's overprotective brothers, and Taz, a member of the notorious Good Girls gang, are especially well developed. This powerful story will stay with readers long after they finish the book." *Starred Review* Shelley Mosley, American Library Association.

"Shay's writing trademark is taking seemingly impossible relationships and developing them into classic tales of true love, which is what she does here." Fresh Fiction
"What we get in SOMEONE TO BELIEVE IN is Clay and Bailey fighting each other in the media but heating up the sheets (or the stairs, elevators, and the walls) with love making. Talk about a hot book filled with great dialogue and love scenes." A Reader

Also available: the O'Neil brothers' stories in CLOSE TO YOU, TAKING THE HEAT, HIGH STAKES and ALWAYS AND FOREVER, contemporary romances with alpha male heroes and the strong women who love them. Don't miss these Irish romance series of novels.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
"Kathryn Shay is an awesome talent who gets better, if possible, with each new story. SOMEONE TO BELIEVE IN is a wonderfully written, emotional and extraordinary read and truly deserves a five star rating."
Fresh Fiction
"Shay's writing trademark is taking seemingly impossible relationships with almost insurmountable obstaxles and delveloping them into classic tales of true love, which is exactly what she does here. SOMEONE TO BELIEVE IN is another highly complex, compelling and thought-provoking novel written by one of the best."
Melissa Nix
"Once again, Kathryn Shay delivers a romance that is steeped in realism. Both Clay and Bailey feel like real people, who live in the same world that we do.Clay and Bailey, like all of Kathryn Shay's heroes and heroines, are not perfect, but you love them anyway. Someone To Believe In is a wonderful story of two people who's lives are different, and how love brings them together in spite of that. Kathryn Shay is quickly becoming an author whose books I can count on placing it on my keeper shelf."
Marilyn Weigel
"Shay has produced a smooth, evocatively written novel that tackles big issues and has substantial conflict. The believable characters and the complex, haunting plot deepen the story on every level. Because the hero and heroine have significant differences in their beliefs, the attraction between them results in an intense sexual tension that propels the reader through the novel."
Romance Reader
"Given their radically different viewpoints, I was worried that Shay would cop out and soften Bailey too much in order to keep her with Clay. But if she becomes a little more conservative, Clay becomes a little more liberal by the end of the book, and the epilogue shows that they’re both fighting the good fight in their own way. You’ll be rewarded with a powerful love story."

Eleven years after being sent to jail, Bailey O'Neil is known as the Street Angel, having formed a network to rescue kids from gangs. Her work brings Clay Wainwright back into her life. Once upon a time, the ambitious attorney sent her to jail, but things have changed. A strange attraction draws them together time and again, but his life is very public, and becoming more so. In contrast, hers must be hidden, for safety's sake. As they explore meshing two worlds, a horrendous crime threatens their love. ........................ **** As always, Katherine Shay's compelling writing draws you into the scenario she creates. More about Bailey's past might have been good to know, but this does not really detract from the fast paced, yet warm plot in the least. Brava, Ms. Shay. ****

It would be better without the vulgarity. Did not finish. I hate dirty language.

A good read. Would still have been a very good book minus the explicit sex scenes. Kept my interest right to the end. Would certainly recommend this Author and will read more of his books. Thanks B & N for another great free book. HM

Although the language was very hard to take the book was one of the best I've ever read. The issue of gang violence is a crucial one and was addressed realistically while at the same time being intriguing and entertaining. Highly recommended.

Great book story was so intense. It covered so many areas of life like, trust, respect, passion for your beliefs and love. I think this story showed that if we love enough, there is very little we can't either overcome or learn to find an acceptable middle ground.

This is my first, and won't be my last, novel of Kathryn Shay. I found her characters well developed and likable, and the novel realistically written. I look forward to reading more of her work. I am distrubed that a previous reviewer would slam the book because of "vulgar language". The summary clearly states the novel involves gangs. Any intelligent person would or should know that language in regard to the gang members wouldn't be Puritanical.

800 pages. No mystery, teen gang violence and lots of sex, which became boring fast. The usual stuff for a bodice ripper, even if set in current era. Needed some editing, some words were even misspelled. ( morw for more) me and I not used correctly and so on. For adult readers. AD

Someone To Believe In by Kathryn Shay is an emotional, deeply sensual tale. _________ Bailey O¿Neil is a woman on a mission to save teens from the deadly world of gang violence. She has a personal stake in it since she lost her younger sisters life to a gang. Bailey¿s family though close knit is forever worrying about the lengths she is willing to go to, to save these teens. Her methods put her at a cross purposes to Senator Clay Wainright. ______ Clay Wainright is an up and coming politician. Bailey O¿Neil has been a thorn in his side since he sent her to jail for a year over ten years ago. Now as a Senator he is assigned with Bailey to the same task force to address gangs. Their views are as different as night and day. Sparks fly in their discussions on the task force. But an all-consuming passion erupts between them outside of those meetings. _________ This isn¿t an easy romance for either party, each has issues from the past not just their opposite views. Clay is determined to protect Bailey and Bailey is equally determined to save these teens at all cost. _______ Someone To Believe In grabs you and pulls you in. The issues are real and complex. I couldn¿t read this book fast enough. I hope Bailey¿s brothers get their own stories soon.
