Answering a call that summons her to a stranger's deathbed, a reluctant Sophie Shepard is too late to hear what he was so anxious to tell her. What was so important that a dying man would think of her in his final moments? With the help of Dr. Drew McCarren, Sophie begins to dig into her past, setting off a chain of events that chills the quiet town of Clearfield, Virginia to its roots.
With part of her wanting nothing more than to put Clearfield behind her and run back home, Sophie knows she won't rest until she discovers the truth. But growing closer to the residents also means uncovering their dark secrets: about the woman who gave her up for adoption, the mysterious part these strangers played, and the life she never knew she nearly had.
Something About Sophie is an unforgettable story about the power of love...and the things people will do, both right and wrong, to protect it.

The story is good but the sheer number of grammatical errors and typos is appalling for a major publishing house release. HarperCollins needs to invest more in quality editors. This reads more like a smashwords release than from an actual publishing house. Shame on Harper for making their writers look amateur!
Gripping thriller! Sophie receives a phone call from a strange dying older man, Arthur, saying that he has something that he needs to tell her about her past. Sophie's adopted, but is perfectly content with her "real" adopted family and could live the rest of her life without ever learning about who her biological mother or father was. Curiosity gets to Sophie after a few persistent calls from Arthur and she travels to this old man's town, but not before he dies. He didn't leave her a note or anything. The whole situation is a bit mysterious. Sophie ends up being asked by Arthur's lawyer to attend the will reading and finds out he's left her his farm property! She, along with Arthur's family, is seriously shocked, wondering why in the world he would leave such a huge amount of property to her... is it because he's feeling guilty about something? The possibility of him secretly fathering her isn't enough to keep such a secret and leave her such a thing in his will, is it? Since Sophie's arrived to this small town, someone's memories are stirred up of what happened years ago and this someone is trying to keep certain people's mouths shut - by murdering them. Sophie then is asked to stay in town longer than planned, while the sheriff investigates into the killings. This plot just twisted and turned in places I couldn't have predicted. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to find out who was behind all of it and what any of it had to do with Sophie. I loved Jesse - while Sophie was in town, she stayed at a bed and breakfast that Jesse owned. Though all of this, Jesse became a great friend to Sophie. Sophie didn't really know anyone in this strange little town and Jesse was a good person that she could confide in and have a laugh or a drink with. Also, Sophie had a bit of a fling with Drew, a doctor that she'd started seeing that was working at the hospital that Arthur was staying in. After all of these mysteries events around them started happening, I found their relationship took on a realistic course. A truly exhilarating read! Source: Publisher
A very poor attempt at a murder.mystery. Seriously. The person responsible for the murders is just plain corney. If the book iis 2.99 ten buy amd read.it, otherwise forget it .
