Overview

A Book in the Family Series

Police captain Asher Penaz's staunch professionalism bleeds into his home life, down to his neatly pressed attire and spartan apartment. He enjoys being the man in charge, and leather bars satisfy his need for dominance-so his sudden and powerful attraction to the lighthearted, free-spirited Daniel Tover throws him for a loop. In his entire life, Daniel has never gotten what he needs, so he moves to the next place, the next job, the next attempt to find something worth staying for, always landing at the top of his game, but never feeling like he belongs.

The chemistry between Asher and Daniel sizzles, so Asher invites Daniel home. As both men struggle to learn themselves while getting to know each other, the lines of desire and control blur. With all that fire comes the risk of getting burned. But if Daniel and Asher can walk through the flames together, they might find what they desperately need.

Loved it! Great book in the series. Full of heartbreak and love. The synopsis makes it seem like it's a full on bdsm kink story, but it's not. While there are elements of D/s, they are soft and played down, so those who aren't into that will enjoy the book. The only thing that kept it from five stars was the abrupt ending. I would have liked to have read just a bit more and felt like they settled down together, instead of stopping just when they made up. But overall, great story. 400+ pgs

Cardeno C has done it again! You'll fall in love with Daniel and shake your head at Ash. This is a funny, sexy read. Please read this book when you have the time, because once you start, you won't put it down till you're done!

I purchased my ebook copy of this book, but was gifted my AUDIO copy. Police captain Asher Penaz’s staunch professionalism bleeds into his home life, down to his neatly pressed attire and spartan apartment. He enjoys being the man in charge, and leather bars satisfy his need for dominance—so his sudden and powerful attraction to the lighthearted, free-spirited Daniel Tover throws him for a loop. Control, thats all Asher needs, and Daniel sends that control spinning! After meeting him, right in the first chapter, Daniel evokes thoughts and ideas in Asher that he didn't know he wanted, needed, even. And Asher fights all the way pushing Daniel to his very limits. Each man has his say, and you get each and every emotion, as if you were there in the room. You feel as Asher pushes Daniel, as Daniel pushes back, and when Asher finally pushes too far, when Daniel snaps. I loved watching Asher unravel, and fall apart, faced with Daniel chipping away at his control, and it made for an amazing read. Now, maybe, for some reason, I expected something else for this story after reading the blurb, I really don't know what, BUT I found this an unexpected delight! Don't get me wrong, I knew it was going to be good, I've not read a bad one from CC, I just seem to find it took a turn I didn't see! Its really weird, what I'm trying to say, but I hope my point gets across! Suffices to say, I loved this book, and will be reading the second in the series next. These are a series, BUT can be read out of order and as stand alones. **AUDIO REVIEW** Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my AUDIO copy of this book. Ezekiel Robison again narrates. I said in my review for the audio of The Half Of Us that I would give this narrator a second chance and I did. I really tried to like his narration of this book, but I couldn't. His voice again dips in random places, and the voices he gave to Asher and Daniel, Asher especially, were all wrong. And because of the dipping, and the so very wrong voice of Asher, I couldn't finish listening. I'm so sorry that I couldn't and I know that some audio reviewers will love his work, but I am one who cannot. My unfinished audio narration does not affect my original book rating. 5 stars for the book 2 for the narration. **same worded review will appear on Goodreads, Audible.com, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble and Kobo**

Ash and Daniel's story really is about opposite's attracting, and changes made that can alter a person completely. Although Ash comes across quite abrasive at times, Daniel seems to be the only one who can handle that easily. Daniel is no pushover though, it's just his is a more 'quiet' strength than Asher. The chemistry between these two is unmistakable and makes for some hot reading. There are nice bits, sexy bits, lump in your throat bits and bits that will leave you shaking your head at the actions of these characters. You will feel every emotion as Cardeno puts you through your paces. Well written as always, dipping a toe into BDSM but going no further, this is a book to savour and enjoy again and again. Highly recommended. * I received this book from WLK Book Promotions in return for a fair and honest review. * Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!

Let's start with why I adore Cardeno C. The stories are always a soft build immersed with heat and heart. In this book, which is the first of the family series we have Asher who is a dominant hard nosed cop. He doesn't want a relationship but he loves the pleasure of a submissive. On a weekend long bachelor trip in Vegas for his best friend Ollie. He comes across a young man who bumbles his way through Vegas. He immediately starts to follow this young man as he's greatly intrigued. Plus there's something about him that makes him want to protect this man. Daniel is a free spirit and likes to hide a part of himself with his large clothes and not really looking at where he's going so when he literally stumbles across a large hunk of a man he's immediately smitten to this dominant man. The connection is pretty instant with these two and it only grows when Ash finds out this man is Daniel his best friend's little brother. Daniel doesn't do one night stands, so if Ash wants him he has to change his ways , which he does to get a chance with Daniel. After the weekend Ash moves Daniel in and their relationship explodes but this is new for Ash so feelings like jealousy and love are a hard pill for him to swallow. It takes work, change and commitment for this relationship to work for these men, but the reward is everything. This book has a great feel to it. You get to see the growth of Asher and the bond grow between these two which was sweet yet still spicy. As always Cardeno C. knows how to infuse so much emotion and heart into these stories that you are reeled in from beginning to end routing for the couple.
