Overview

Love can appear unexpectedly: a chance meeting at a friend’s wedding, the arrival of a handsome new co-worker… or while being robbed at a convenience store.

For some, love seems an impossible dream. Growing up gay in small-town Missouri, Jace Holden thought his chance would never come. Bracing his heart, Jace chases after his desire, hoping for a warm hand to hold his tight.

Something Like Autumn tells the story of Jace’s life before the events of Something Like Summer, while also revisiting his time with Benjamin Bentley.

Meet the Author

Jay Bell never gave much thought to Germany until he met a handsome foreign exchange student. At that moment, beer and pretzels became the most important thing in the world. This is the 3rd book in the Seasons series. It's all centered around Jace Holden and his story. This series is my favorite of all time and this character, Jace, in particular is my favorite character ever written. It's a truly fantastic book and series and I recommend it 100%.

    I Also Recommend:

While you can read SLA as a standalone book, I do not recommend it. It certainly will have an emotional impact, whether you read it by itself or as the series in which it was intended. For the full impact, read the series in order.

I have said it before, and I will say it again, Jay Bell is an evil author that delights in making his fans cry! Knowing what was coming, I still was crying like a baby. With this latest entry in the "Seasons" series, it's safe to say that Jay is a master of his craft. In my review of "Something Like Winter", I stated that it lacked the emotional impact of "Something Like Summer", I cannot say that for SLA. It seemed like it was more devastating seeing the final events unfold from Jace's POV.

Starting out with a near tragedy, SLA hooked me immediately. My first shedding of tears came from the results of Michelle confronting Jace about his actions. Not bawling, mind you, but I felt the emotional impact. The resolution of Jace's relationship with Victor was heartbreaking. I almost lost it when Jace entered his boyhood bedroom to find Samson on his bed. And then there is the ending. I was in tears from the moment Greg and Jace were outside talking before Jace went to see his past about his future. As the final moments of the novel arrived I was bawling my heart out, finding it difficult to breathe, knowing how things were unfolding.

Jace, Ben, Victor, Greg, Michelle, Tim, and Bernie are all people that I wish I knew. Jay has an amazing ability for creating compelling characters. It is a gift I am glad Jay is here to share.

Jay Bell is a powerful voice in gay fiction. One I consider myself lucky enough to have read. While tragic, I believe the "Seasons" series is one of the finest coming of age stories I have ever read. I definitely look forward to Jay's future works.

    BEST BOOK I'VE EVER READ

I've read alot of books. Mainly as a way to pass time. But, a book has never moved in such a strong way before i read the series this book is a part of. Something like autumn moved me to tears. The author of this series really brings you into the story, and has you laughing and crying with the charecters as uf they were people you knew. Which they do end up feeling like. This book along with "something like summer" and "somethung like winter" brings things to a whole new level of emotion. Absolutly best book i've ever read.

I absolutely LOVED "Something Like Summer" and "Something Like Winter" and I always wanted Tim and Ben to be together. I thought Jace was a boring character, and then when I read his story I FREAKING LOVED IT! This is my favorite out of the three, I really enjoyed, it was so good. GET IT!

    Never Ceases to Impress

This book, like all the other "Something Like..." series by Jay Bell, did not disappoint. As usual, the style of Bell's writing and the detail(s) that emcompass the characters manage to bring tears to my eyes once again. In love with this book and it may potentially be the best one out of the trilogy (for now, seeing as how the fourth novel is soon to be released). All-in-all, if you enjoy reading gay novels capable of evoking emotions you didn't know were there and capablr absorbing a reader into the depths of sweet succulence which is Bell's book itself, you should definitely give this book a chance!
