Return to Plain City, Ohio, where lifelong goals open paths to something new. Lil Landis aspires to become a head chef…a far cry from her Conservative Mennonite upbringing. But as she chases after her dream, problems seem to hinder her every move—from her mother’s depression to her family’s failing farm. Veterinary student Fletch Stauffer comes to the Landis farm with some goals of his own. But as Fletch is drawn deeper into deceptive ambitions, he finds himself falling for spunky Lil and at odds with his dream. Will determination cloud their thoughts until their goals—and love—disappear?

Editorial Reviews

RT Book Reviews

The second book in the Plain City Bridesmaids is a sweet romance with loveable characters. Christner does an amazing job of allowing the reader to see inside the Mennonites' way of life.

Something New is the second book in the Plain City series, written by this author. The author did a wonderful job describing the conservative Mennonite faith and gives a detailed look that you don't usually find in novels. It was well written and had interesting characters and really was a lighthearted and fun read with great entertainment value.

Luv 2 Read...Anything

Also, although this is part of a series of books, I didn’t feel as though I missed anything, having only read the second.  The story flowed, and I didn’t get the sense of a forced rehash of prior stories, like sometimes authors feel compelled to do to get readers caught up.  This is really the story of how other people’s expectations (and even our own) can sometimes cause us, as Christians, to forget our first love.

Overall, it was a fun story of faith, love, and dreams, and while it was an easy read, it still offered some thought provoking moments.  I may have to start reading romance novels more often.  This one certainly changed my perspective on them to a degree.

If you love inspirational romances, and the works of Dianne – you will definitely enjoy this story.  It’s sweet, engaging and tugs are your heart strings.  I hoped that Fletcher would see the light and that Lil and him would work things out.  Will I read more by this author?  Yes!  I have Something Blue (the third book in the Plains City series) waiting on my TBR pile!

Meet the Author

Dianne Christner lives in New River, Arizona, where life sizzles in the summer when temperatures soar above 100 degrees as she writes from her air-conditioned home office. She enjoys the desert life, where her home is nestled in the mountains and she can watch quail and the occasional deer, bobcat, or roadrunner.

Dianne was raised Mennonite and works hard to bring authenticity to Mennonite fiction. She now worships at a community church. She’s written over a dozen novels, most of which are historical fiction. She gets caught up in research having to set her alarm to remember to switch the laundry or start dinner. But her husband of forty-plus years is a good sport. They have two married children, Mike and Rachel, and five grandchildren, Makaila, Elijah, Vanson, Ethan, and Chloe.
