Something Special

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Something Special is something of a mixed bag from Dolly Parton, featuring a selection of new songs and re-recorded old material. While the newer songs are fine, they pale in comparison with classics like "Jolene" and "I Will Always Love You," recorded as a duet with Vince Gill. If the new songs had been included on an album that only featured new material, they would have formed a strong record, but they take a back seat to Parton's older songs, which are more inspired and better-written. Nevertheless, the album provides several fine moments, even it doesn't rank among her best works.

    This CD is Something Special

Something Special may not be one of Dolly's best, though it is worth the money. At night it helps me sleep, she sings it so angelic and harmonic that you are soothed and relaxed. I don't know where critics get off saying her new songs dont match up to the old ones, they do, take it from a non-critic and a person that thinks like everyone else, I actually like the new songs better. Over all, this is a beautiful Dolly CD and I think everyone should own it, it's not country nor pop, its in the middle, good for everyone.
