Meet the Author

Francisco Matos Paoli was a a poet and essayist who was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1977 and was named the resident poet at the University of Puerto Rico. He was also a Secretary General of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party and a one-time political prisoner in the 1950s. Frances R. Aparicio is a professor of Spanish and Portuguese and director of the Latina and Latino Studies Program at Northwestern University. She is the author of Listening to Salsa, the coeditor of several anthologies, and is a translator.
