The Adoel keep their past a secret, speaking only of some great sin for which they pay penance by living as servants to the royal family. The curse that haunts them, that turns their skin pale and their hair white, is a shame too deep to even speak of. But as hard as they try, sometimes the sins of the past refuse to stay hidden.

The characters really draw you in - they are diverse and interesting. Kenan is a headstrong teenager out for revenge, Havilah the grieving widow and loving mother trying to hold together her family and the kingdom. The plot has familiar elements of love and revenge and self sacrifice, but they are woven together in a unique storyline that will keep you coming back for more. I look forward to more stories from this world, it's been a fun ride so far!
