The only thing Maroon 5 prove on this debut album is that listeners of pop radio are hungry for "rock," or at least any alternative to the hip-hop and r&b that dominate radio station playlists these days otherwise, there's really not much to explain the popularity of either the group or this album. The songs are an uninspired mix of pop-rock and the brand of r&b/soul that Prince perfected in the early 80s. And while the band themselves seem to have quite a bit of talent, occasionally latching onto a funky, good- time vibe that would sound right at home in a rock- oriented dance club "if there even is such a thing", any enjoyment that might come from the music is swallowed in the screeching of Adam Levine's voice and the vapid idiocy of the lyrics. It's not that Levine's singing is uninteresting, as is often the case in these times of cookie-cutter bands and lowest-common-denominator, reality TV-born pop stars, it's that his wail is beyond irritating and begins to grate on the nerves by the second line of the first verse of the first track. Be careful not to play this disc above the 2nd or 3rd volume marker, or Levine's caterwaul may pierce your eardrums, causing blood to leak from your ears, destroying your favorite shirt. And heaven forbid the neighbors hear you playing this, or you can surely expect a visit from your local animal control officer, inquiring about mutilated felines. All in all, Maroon 5 fall right into line with such acts as the Goo Goo Dolls and Matchbox 20-- bands whose great fortune it is that their frontman is easy enough on the eyes that the ladies swoon without caring in the least what type of noise is coming from their speakers. If this is the type of "rock" that pop radio programmers and listeners are willing to accept as catchy and cutting-edge, then it's no wonder that radio seems to be going the way of the dinosaur. And, despite the damage to my eardrums, I can't help but admire Adam Levine for parlaying his pretty smile and discernible lack of talent into a genuine career on the hit parade.

Oh my gosh. Wow. This CD is absolutely amazing! I highly reccomend it to anyone who loves music. Maroon5 is so clever with their songs, and every song has its own story. You can feel what they were trying to covey when they were writing these songs. I just can't get enough of Maroon5!

This is honestly one of the best c.d.s ever created. The question is when will Maroon 5 create a follow up album? Seems kind of unlikely. But you can definitely pull anything you want out of this cd. It rocks!

I bought this album the day it came out because I had heard "harder to breathe" on the radio and couldn't get enough. Five years later, I'm still spinning this cd everyday in my car, in class, at night, always! It's a great CD. All the songs are well written and memorable. There are few CDs that I actually listen to all the way through - this one I start over after it stops.

This album is just awesome. I don't have a favorite song from their album because all the songs are just amazing. Although, there's many bands out there with the same style, no one does it better than Maroon 5.

This album is so very beautiful. The vocals are amazing, full of emotion. My favorite songs are “Sunday Morning” and “She will be loved” which, beautiful lyrics makes, cry every time. Do I need to say more? This album is terrific!

finally, the music world gives us a band that produces a record of pure bliss. What an amzing cd Maroon 5 created! After a lack of sales under the names Kara's Flowers, the band added a member and changed their pop/rock driven sound by infusing major R&B and funk vibes. I bought this CD way back in 2003 when "Harder To Breathe" had just finished its semi-successful run as a radio single. Also, i just attended their concert in MD on April 16! god it was amazingm and the guitar work was incredible. Adam crealy is a gifted musician who knows how to work the crowd. it was absloutley sold out! i advise EVERYONE to buy this cd, you definatley wont regret it. its just one of those great albums were every track on the cd is great, deep, and worthwhile. P.S. if you get the chance to see these guys live, definatley grab it. it gives you a whole new appreciation for thier music, especially their guitar work.

Maroon5, once known as Kara's Flowers, is suddenly having their songs become classic hits. After winning a Grammy, they are now touring around! Yeah, Concert Time!!! Eh hem, anyway, Songs About Jane is truly a spectacular CD. Gotta Love yah Maroon5. And, if you reviewers don't know the five guys that make up the amazing band, here they are: ~Adam Levine- Main singer and guitar player. He's the voice you hear blasting from the speakers. ~Jesse Carmichael- Keyboards and vocals. (I love playing the keyboard myself.) ~Ryan Dusick- drums and vocals. Ryan keeps the beat. ~James Valentine- Guitar. He plays one of the main guitars, and very good at it too. ~Mickey Madden- Plays the bass. (No not the fish, duh...) Well, that wraps up my opinion. Thanks for reading!!! ***** ROCK ON MAROON5 *****

Maroon 5 is the best! If you do not have the CD, you need it. The combination of pop/funk/rock is amazing. It is something different than everything else that you hear, which makes it amazing! (Okay, and Adam is hot, but whatever) If you love the CD, then you got to see them in concert to get the full effect though. Buy it!!!

This CD is a great CD. They have great songs, i love "harder to breathe," "tangled" "shiver" "she will be loved," "the sun" "must get out" and "sunday morning" They have a unquie sound, a little on the rock side but not too hard and not too poppy.

Really, I wanna give this album 2 1/2 stars 'cause it doesn't deserve that other 1/2. Hee hee. I think most people like Maroon5 because all the guys are hot. Admit it: they are. But that doesn't mean they're good songwriters. I bought the album on the strength of "Harder To Breathe". Sad to say... the only other songs I listen to are "She Will Be Loved" and "Must Get Out". "This Love" was a huge hit at radio but if you really listen to the song- it gets so tiring after awhile, despite it's good instrumentation. Everything else sounds reminiscent of *NSync. And that ain't a compliment baby.

With it's originality, and interesting sexy sound, Maroon5 has achieved an outstanding should-be-grammy-winner album. I listen to this cd very often and enjoy more each time. I recommend this album to someone that has a wide taste in music or music with a funky twist on things.

This album is worth buying because they have a unique sound to it. It's rock, but with soul added to it. They are a very talented group. You gotta give them credit for there 3 hits (Harder to breathe, This Love, She will be loved) You should also listen to "Sunday Morning", "Shiver", and "Sweetest Goodbye" those are also very good. I hope "Sunday Morning" becomes there next hit. I deffidently recommend it to anyone that likes their hits. If you like them, buy the cd.

Maroon 5 have certainly come a long way since their days in the indie outfit Kara's Flowers. After the band's demise in 1999, frontman Adam Levine surrounded himself with New York City's urban hip-hop culture and found a new musical calling. Maroon 5 was born and their debut album, Songs About Jane, illustrates an impressive rebirth. It's groovy in spots, offering bluesy funk on "Shiver" and a catchy, soulful disposition on "Harder to Breathe." "Must Get Out" slows things down with its dreamy lyrical story, and Levine is a vocal dead ringer for Men at Work's Colin Hay. Don't wince -- it works brilliantly. Songs About Jane is love-drunk on what makes Maroon 5 tick as a ...
