All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
After the ballad-heavy In the Wee Small Hours, Frank Sinatra and Nelson Riddle returned to up-tempo, swing material with Songs for Swingin' Lovers!, arguably the vocalist's greatest swing set. Like Sinatra's previous Capitol albums, Songs for Swingin' Lovers! consists of reinterpreted pop standards, ranging from the ten-year-old "You Make Me Feel So Young" to the 20-year-old "Pennies From Heaven" and "I've Got You Under My Skin." Sinatra is supremely confident throughout the album, singing with authority and joy. That joy is replicated in Riddle's arrangements, which manage to rethink these standards in fresh yet reverent ways. Working with a core rhythm section...

That joy is replicated in Riddle's arrangements, which manage to rethink these standards in fresh yet reverent ways. Working with a core rhythm section and a full string orchestra, Riddle writes scores that are surprisingly subtle. "I've Got You Under My Skin," with its breathtaking middle section, is a perfect example of how Sinatra works with the band. Both swing hard, stretching out the rhythms and melodies but never losing sight of the original song. Songs for Swingin' Lovers! never loses momentum. The great songs keep coming and the performances are all stellar, resulting in one of Sinatra's true classics.

    THE ALBUM

If you only want to own one Frank Sinatra recording, buy this one. It is universally considered his best. I suggest you get them all, but if you can't, this is the one.

    The definition of a classic

The greatest album by the greatest musical artist of the 20th century. Need I say more? Ok, I will. The obvious classics are here (''I've Got You Under My Skin'', ''You Make Me Feel So Young''), but every cut is pure gold. ''How About You'', ''Makin' Whoopee'', and ''It Happened In Monterey'' show Frank at his best. A must for any music lover.

    Definative.

Currently, on my iPod, I can list over 2000 Sinatra titles currently on there. I've heard everything from session outtakes to the most obscure of performances but when someone asks me to name my favorite swing work to come from "The Voice", I respond "Songs for Swingin' Lovers". The mastering here by Bob Norberg is not well managed at all. But that said, this album is the highlight of the collaboration between Francis Albert Sinatra and Nelson Riddle (at least in the swinger category of albums) "I've Got You Under my Skin" is the pinnacle of 20th Century Swing.

    Great remastering job

This is a really good CD, but I don't think it's Sinatra's best. I think "A Swingin' Affair!," "Songs for Young Lovers," "In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning" and "Only the Lonely" are much better. The remastering was done wonderfully. I can't believe this is in Mono. It almost sounds as if it was recorded today. Play the samples.

    A reviewer

Sinatra's voice is at its best because it's 1956. All of the songs are great. "It happened in Monterey," "You Make Me Feel so Young," and "Pennies from Heavan" are classics. The remastering is also done very well.
