All Music Guide - Thom Jurek
Songs from the Heart is the fifth offering from the Celtic Woman quintet. With some alternating membership, it sticks close to producer and arranger David Downes' of Riverdance fame vision/formula: these women sing contemporary and traditional Celtic songs and well-known standards backed by a choir, Celtic folk instruments bodhran, fiddle, Uilleann pipes, and bagpipes, a full backing band, and an orchestra. Lisa Kelly does a tender reading of of Sting's "Fields of Gold," as an opener, while the entire group participates in an overblown version of "Amazing Grace," complete with bagpipes. There is a lovely version of the traditional ballad "Nil Sé'n Lá" once more sung by the quintet with killer bodhran playing by Ray Fean. The song selection here is somewhat more eclectic than on previous albums, as evidenced by a complex, spit-shined, and polished take on the Phil Collins-penned Disney tune "You'll Be in My Heart" for an Alex Sharpe solo, the British Isles standard "My Lagan Love," and even Dvorák's "Non C'è Più." [A version of the album with two live tracks was released in 2010.]

    I Also Recommend:

    Highly Recommended

I may be biased as I am a huge Celtic Woman fan, but this is a must listen to album; while they cover classics like "You'll Be in My Heart" and "Fields of Gold", they add something new to these songs. A different tone from their earlier albums, but worth the money. Highlights include Lisa Kelly's rendition of "Fields of Gold", the group singing "Amazing Grace" and "O, America!". The groups performance of "Isle of Hope" is simply amazing as they sing of their homeland, Ireland, in a very beautifully written song, with great accompaniment from their band. Highly recommended for those who have not listened to Celtic Woman, a good sampling of their music.

Songs From The Heart - Not Celtic Woman's Best Release

Before I begin, I must point out that I am a HUGE Celtic Woman fan and have most of their CDs and a couple of their videos, and have seen most of their PBS specials. I had very high hopes for this CD, which I ordered before seeing anything on television. Unfortunately, this release fell short of my expectations for Celtic Woman's music. Nothing really stood out, good or bad. It just laid there. I'm not sure if the changes in the group's lineup have made a difference, or if the choice of material wasn't quite as stellar as usual, but this CD is just middle of the road and a darned shame from such a normally superb group of artists. Hopefully the next release will return to what we've come to expect.

Great mix of Celtic and Popular music

I first saw Celtic Woman on Public Television and was quite impressed. Many of the songs in Songs from the Heart were performed in the show, which is why I chose this album. Their voices are clear and beautiful and the orchestration is full and moving. This is one of my favorite CDs to take in the car when I know I have a long drive, or may be faced with traffic. Not only is the music inspiring and soothing, it makes the time in the car pass quickly.

This is a truly beautiful CD. It's very much lie their others, but each one has a unique quality of its own. The range of their voices is unbelieveable and the choices of songs leaves you breathless and leaves you wanting more. Don't miss this CD!

Songs From the Heart - Celtic Woman

A couple of months ago I went to a Celtic Woman Concert. I had never heard of the group before but went because a friend suggested it. The concert was fantastic! A couple of weeks later their Songs From the Heart concert filmed in Ireland was televised on our local public broadcasting station and I was lucky enough to be able to DVR and keep it. Just having the music at home was not enough for me though. I requested and received the CD for Christmas. Now I can listen to it at home, in my car, and on my IPOD when I am out walking. This CD is absolutely my favorite one of all time. I would recommend it to anyone who loves beautiful singing!
