After shelling out close to $20.00 for this studio cast recording of this glorious show, I was very disapointed. The singers sound "Tinny" and were obviously not in the same room with the orchestra during the recording sessions. In the cut "Prima Donna" the vocal track for Raoul(John Bowerman), was slightly elivated so his was the only voice you could understand. In the summer of 1995 the JAY label released highlights of this same version, minus the entr'acte for $6.99. Better to go with the 1987 highlights cd with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman. I do not like Brightman and will say that the singer on this Jay studio cast is somewhat better.
As far as I know Ethan Freeman and Claire Moore took over Crawford and Brightman after they left. Overall this cd is good but on personal opinion is poorly cast. Everyone on the cd are fine singers but do not fit their roles at all. Buy the better highlight cds.
I have alway's been a fan of OPERA Music. But I also sing opera in two different lanage's. Andrew Webber is a great musician. If you have enjoyed ''Jesus Christ SuperStar'', ''Cats'',and or ''Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat''. You will also enjoy alittle of Opera. I saw the Play and fell in love with it. I reconmed you see the play then buy the CD.
This play is absoulutly amazing, I adivse everyone to see it. The music is so magical it will give chills up your spine. I enjoy every song on this soundtrack It tells a strory through beatiful notes and melodies. The singer who sing are so well balanced and blending wonderfully. Andrew Lloyd Webber is a wonderful artist that everyone should be able to enjoy.
