I just got my nook today and this was the first thing I wanted to download. Yet it's cheaper to get the physical books instead of electronically receiving it?! Wow, how ridiculous.
CathryneHamsher More than 1 year ago
Not only does the ebook set cost more than the physical books... But to buy 1-8 in ebook form separately is $55.92 (6.99*8)... Still cheaper than this "set". Please explain yourselves B&N. And please don't use the "it's the publisher that sets the price" excuse, because that's complete bullocks and we all know it.

Seems like if they are not printing it out it should be at least the same if not cheaper on ebooks so I am not buying them even though I heard they are really good until they come down in price for the ebooks!
Ardent_Outlaw More than 1 year ago
I agree with the last two posts, It's ridiculous that the price of the eBook is almost $20 more than the paperback copies. It cost them money to make the paperbacks, the eBooks have no cost per copy. I understand everyone it entitled to make money on the things they sell but it insane to buy something digital when you can have the real book for less money that cost more to make.

Hooked, I am in love with the series. I started with the first, then second, and ended up bying the box set. Just finished up with #9, waiting on pins and needles for #10. Everytime I would pick up the next booked, I hope for more romance, although it seemed perfect in the first book, the more I got into the series I was left wishing Harris added a bit more moosh. The series is very exciting and kept me on my toes, knowing Sookie is the only women in the world that can find that kind of trouble. It has it's passionate moments, but I ALWAYS wanted more. All in all I am in love with Harris and her writing, easy read, great character development, I read this before I started in on the HBO series. Love the books more than the series....but I am interested in the HBO series to see where and how they pull from the books. Suggest anyone that loved the Twighlight series from Meyer, but is over the age of 18, to read this. Addictive and exciting. Check out Lara Adrian, hit the romance button on the head!!

Other reviewers have adequately covered the quality of the writing, narrative, characters etc., this review is strictly about the eBook version of this set. To put it bluntly, these eBooks suck. This collection is one huge file, which would be convenient were it an actual book, but since it's a digital book it makes no sense. Navigating between books on the nook is exactly like navigating between different chapters and it is a pain. I would have much preferred 8 files as opposed to 1, this detail alone would've made for a much more enjoyable reading experience. Beyond that, as you progress through the series, around books 4 and 5, the editing in these books just gets downright sloppy. Spelling errors, including character names, weird character transcriptions (e.g. "why no11?" instead of "why not"), and occasionally bizarre formatting make the books progressively less impressive to read. By the time you're on books 7 and up, these ebooks look less like the polished professional-looking releases I'm accustomed to buying from B&N, and much more like hastily thrown together .pdf files. If you're a huge fan or are planning on reading this series no matter what, buy this set ...it's the cheapest way to get these 8 books. Otherwise pass.

I really was looking into purchasing the books but I totally agree with the last 3-4 posts that the price should be the same or cheaper for Nook than buying the physical books. The price is outragous considering there is no weight or paper involved on a Nook. I have read the sample of book one and love the book already but I won't purchase these books until the price drops on Nook as well.

This was the first thing I wanted to buy on my Nook, but I am really disappointed to see the price is almost double the cost of the paperback set! I may have to return my nook because from looking at the price of some of these things it looks like it won't save me money which is why I bought it.

I guess we have to read public domain free books until B&N realizes it's overpricing ebooks.

I'll start by saying that I thoroughly enjoy the series and I'm sure plenty has been said along those lines. What I wanted to address was the fact that this particular edition went from $28 to $55 dollars after, I assume, the new business model was unveiled in response to the Apple hubbub. I bought a nook in February with the understanding that the prices of e-books would be fairly consistent and somewhat cheaper than the printed editions. The printed edition of this can be gotten for $37 and Amazon has the e-book for $32, so why would I pay $55? If this pricing change sticks, I'm out of the B&N e-book game.

I have all the books so far and have read all of them but my husband says it is time to get rid of all of my book (have close to 200) so I bought a NOOK today all excited because I can have my books and not take over the house. But I am sad to see that I paid way less for the Books than what is being charged for the E-Books. I guess I should have gone with a Kindle. Although a nook supports for files along with the military manuals my husband need Amazon prices are cheaper and they have a much larger collection of free books. I am also now hearing that we cant download over seas? Is this true? I heard all the reviews and thought it was great the books to read are a wonderful read but Barnes $ Noble I am not happy to see how you enjoy ripping people off by raising the prices on the E-Books most cost more than the Paper Back. My husband will just have to deal with my 200 books around the house.

If you are a fan of anything vampire, you will love owning this boxed set of the Sookie Stackhouse books. The books are great and will keep you wanting more. Sookie is a quirky girl with a "disability" that puts her in unpredicatable situations. I highly recommend this series for all you vampire lovers out there!

LOVE the series. Yes, the ideas behind the characters might be a little out of the ordinary but the world is real and fully created. If you love the True Blood series then you will devur this as it is even better. It's the characters as the authr riginally intended and I prefer them to the show. I've been waiting to but this set for a while now and when I finally go to purchase it I find the price has skyrocketed. It used to be just about the sme as the cost of the paperback boxset. Well, not anymore. Thank you B&N for alienating more people going digital. I could barely afford the ereader and now that I have it I can't afford the books. Well, I guess I'm sticking to downloading free books and borrowing from the library. I don't even have access to your 3G network so really thanx for nothing.

While vampires are the fad right now in literature, Charlaine takes it a step further & includes creatures that expand your fantasy world even further. Sookie & her world of vamps, maenads, fairies and a few normal folk will take you out of our every day rut and into a world where you'll forget about anything else. It's a super simple read, but gives you enough storyline to keep the wheels in your head turning. Fantasy inter-twined with mystery, romance & action - it's just the best of everything. Make sure you have time set aside when you start this series - you won't be able to put these books down!

Why have a box set available when it is the same price to piece them out? I'll buy them as I go.

I would love to buy this from BN online or at the store however, the pricing is crazy. I bought the volume set plus 9 and 10 from walmart for a total of 52.00 and free shipping. BN is only good for items you can't get anywhere else and that is becoming slim now.

I absolutely fell in love with this series. Sookie is a good heroine who is not perfect and Harris writes that humanity well. There is so much going on in the books that they completely captivate your attention and this series does NOT drag on. Very well written and intelligent, flowing with wit and humor...this series is a keeper.

The series of Sookie Stackhouse was not only original and very entertaining, they were exciting and gave me the opportunity to "escape" my present day problems. I thoroughly enjoyed every one of the books and finished them almost too fast. I could not wait to get to the next page to see what happened. I tried to hold off reading the next book after finishing the previous one, but my willpower was weak, and I could not bear not knowing what was going to happen next. I would and have recommended these books to anyone. Especially those who watch TrueBlood series. It gives faces to the characters and you can imagine them more vividly actually doing the things Ms.Harris writes about. Loved them, loved them, and loved them.

The best thing about this series of books? I purchased them BEFORE the HUGE price increase Barnes & Noble has applied to their available ebooks (I paid less than $24 for this series). The prices of virtually all the books I have on my ebook wish list have increased in the past few days. Some of the prices continue to go up incrementally from day to day. Why is that? One of the reasons I choose to buy the Nook was the reasonable cost of the books. Feels like a bait and switch to me...get people to buy the Nook then bump the cost of the books??? May be good fort the bottom line, but not good for PR...

This series is probably one of the best line if books I have ever read. They just got better and better as you go on, and you can realte to the characters - even though most of them are supernatural. I spent every spare second I had reading. I was turned on to reading the books after adoring the True Blood HBO Series. I loved the series, and if any of you know how good that is, then you know how much it means when I say the books were better! Even the Twilight series pales in comparison to the Sookie Stackhouse novels.

This set is a must have for anyone who enjoys vampire novels or just a thrilling ride. A friend of mine had me read the series and once I was finished I had to purchase them myself. After debating where to make my purchase, always looking for the best deal, it turned out that this new set was the best buy. Makes a perfect gift for a loved one and especially for yourself!

I didn't like the 1st two as much, but then perhaps I was biased from the 1st two episodes of True Blood on TV. When I started reading the series, some of the things the characters said were glaringly stupid/corny/lame. But as I continued I was pulled into Sookie's story more and more; either I didn't notice lame lines anymore or Charlaine Harris' writing got better. Basically, the story is deliciously addicting but the writing can be bad at times.

Sookie Stackhouse is a very funny spunky woman and she makes for a great read. I'm only into book three, but I'm enjoying myself immensely and look forward to each new page.

It really is a shame that after investing on a Nook that BN still holds you up at gun point with e book prices. Paper backs might still be worth it. I got the whole series for $20. Used mint condition through BN used books... really. BN needs to think this one out. Other than price for down load great series.

The books are way better and different than the show. The show has its momments, but the books...frankly, there is no comparrison. The books rule. If you adore the show, you may be dissappointed in the books, but if you enjoy reading you know these things happen and how changes are made to cater to a different audiance. Take the time to read the first two or three books. I dont think you will be sorry. Oh and the books and charries are full of humor. One also features Eric clad in pink spandex. Bless Ms. Harris for creating characters I love to love!
