Based on the music alone, this three-CD box set is a cheap and easy way to pick up a lot of good Julie London tunes. Released by the British wing of EMI, this budget-priced set costs the same as most domestic single-disc compilations of London's Liberty Records material, and the songs are remastered well. Those new to London's cool smoky vocal style would be well advised to pick it up, but fans and collectors who have most of this material already won't find anything new here. The oddly selected songs aren't put into any kind of sequential or thematic order and there are no liner notes or musician listings included. Julie London fans are still waiting for (and deserve) a deluxe EMI/Capitol box set that offers more than a cheap price and good sound. If you aren't a fan, however, picking up this box set may turn you into one.
