Sosa's Homersby Caroline E. Walsh
Carlos made his way through the halls of the school. He tried not to run. But he could hardly stand it. He was about to meet Sammy Sosa -- the Sammy Sosa. He'd never been here before. But there were more than enough signs to guide him to his destination. As he twisted and turned, the noise grew. He could feel himself getting closer. Finally, he turned the last corner. He feared there might be a long line. But instead it looked like a gathering of old friends. And in the middle stood Sammy Sosa. Carlos stopped. He couldn't take his eyes off the tall man at the center of the crowd. Carlos took in every detail. He wanted to remember this moment forever. His eyes moved from Sammy's clean-shaven face to his skillful hands. Carlos took in everything about his hero -- from his Cubs' jersey to his high-top sneakers. Most of all, Carlos was mesmerized by the broad smile on Sammy's face.
