Atsushi Ohkubo's debut manga series, B.ICHI, originally appeared in Square Enix's MONTHLY SHONEN GANGAN magazine. Upon completion of the series, his concept for SOUL EATER began as a series of shorts appearing in the same magazine and later became the long-running work that has earned him international renown. In 2011, he began working on a prequel series entitled SOUL EATER NOT!

I've wanted to see this book for a long time, but it's been out of print and used copies go for $100 on eBay. I have to say it was worth the wait. The hardcover binding has a plastic slipcase printed with the titles and the paper is thick and satin-finished. The art is fabulous. Ohkubo works in so many varied styles and it's nice to see them all in one place. In addition to the Soul Eater, the book contains artwork from B.Ichi. The back of the book contains thumbnails of each print with the Ohkubo's comments. I liked this not only because it gave some insight into the artwork, but because it was separate and didn't interfere with the prints. Absolutely worth the wait! I'd love to see a second volume containing all the newer art for the Soul Eater series.
