All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
As the first release from Babyface's movie studio, Soul Food was an auspicious beginning -- a rich, multi-faceted film that captured the complexities and emotions of a contemporary urban black family that never lapses into stereotypes. It was a minor gem, as is Babyface's soundtrack. Like his work on Waiting to Exhale, the soundtrack for Soul Food is a sampler of mainstream urban styles, featuring some ballads, some swingbeat, and some hip-hop. It's all tied together by his gift for melodic, well-crafted songs and production. Babyface is one of the few producers and songwriters who can function entirely on commercial terms and never seem crass. Nearly every ...

Nearly every track on Soul Food works, whether it's the hip-hop mix of Blackstreet's "Call Me," Total's rap "What About Us," the urban soul of Dru Hill's "We're Not Making Love More" or Boyz II Men's epic ballad "A Song for Mama." The album tracks from Xscape, En Vogue, Tony Toni Tone, Milestone, and Lil' Kim & Puff Daddy all meet the same high standards, which means Soul Food is one of the best records in Babyface's catalog.

Soulfood (The Best R&B of 2000)-Music 4 The Soul

This is one of the best soundtracks I have heard so far. This CD describes the TV series perfectly. R&B has never sounded like this before. Toni Braxton (Wasn't Man Enough) TLC (No. Scrub), Kelly Price (As We Lay), The Late Aaliyah (I Don't Wanna), R. Kelly (When A Woman's Fed UP), Case (Happily Ever After ), Avant (Seperated) plus hot 3 sexy collaborations like Carl Thomas and LL Cool J (I Wish-Remix f/ P. Diddy), Sisqo & F. Brown (Thong Song-Nutty Profesor 2 Sdtk. Remix), and (Sweet November) w/ Montell Jordan, Jazz of Dru Hill, Musiq, and RL of Next. This is one hot soundtrack. They should come back with a Soulfood 2002-2003. With Aaliyah, Donell Jones, Britney, Beyonce' Knowles, Avant, Nelly, and more. Also on sdtk. Mary Mary, M. Blige, Yolanda Adams, Al Green

    ALRIGHT R&B OF 2000

THIS WAS A OKAY CD.SOME OF THE BETTER SONGS WERE BY R. KELLY AN TONI BRAKTON. A REAL SURPRISE WAS AL GREEN'S THE WAY LOVE GOES.THAT WAS THE THEME FOR THE SOUL FOOD TV SHOW.THAT WAS PROBABLY THE BEST ORIGINAL SONG ON THE CD.WORTH BUYING THE CD JUST FOR THAT SONG.
