An ambitious three-CD set covering a wide range of songs and styles from the '70s to the '90s, Soul Love contains some of R&B and modern urban's greatest crooners and bands. Artists like Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers, Earth, Wind & Fire, and the O'Jays are alongside some of the lesser-known artists and some who are equally forgettable as one-hit wonders. And that's where the difficulty with such a box set lies. This could have easily been pared down into a good two-disc set, or even an outstanding single-disc release, but for what it's worth kudos should go to Sony for putting out such a box set at a sensible price. However, as we all know, bigger does not always translate into better, and at moments Soul Love is proof positive of this. Still, those looking for a solid collection of soul hits with an emphasis on the early '80s would be well served to check this out.
