Overview

Time-Life's Sounds of the Seventies: '70s Gold is a brief rundown of some of the biggest hits of the decade. The 12 tracks are drawn from a wide range of genres, encompassing the Southern rock of the Allman Brothers ("Ramblin' Man"), the Motown poetry of Marvin Gaye ("What's Going On"), the slick pop of 10cc's "I'm Not in Love," the dance-pop of Donna Summer's "Bad Girls," and the orchestral pop of the Moody Blues' "Nights in White Satin." Because of the disc's brevity, it can't be considered definitive, but it does give a decent snapshot of some of what was going on in the decade. Better to seek out a longer and more thoughtful collection if that is what you are after. If you just want to hear 40 minutes' worth of excellent '70s music then Sounds of the Seventies: '70s Gold will suit you just fine.
