After releasing full albums by French outfits Air and Cassius, Astralwerks followed up with Source Material, a compilation of material originally released on France's Source Records. The album includes 13 acts new to American and most worldwide audiences, and reflects a growing base of influence for French artists at least the ones that make it to American shores. There's still an incessant slant toward disco and vintage synthesizer gear, like on Ernest Saint Laurent's "Moogie" or Oomiaq's "L'Ultime Atome." There's even a contribution reminiscent of classic French pop, from Bertrand Burgalat on the track "Kim." For listeners intrigued by Moon Safari, this is a great place to go next.
