Calories aren't counted, but based on serving sizes and ingredients provided in sample menus and recipes, intake in all phases runs about 1,200 to 1,400 calories daily, provided that you eat reasonable portions. This calorie level should produce weight loss of about a pound per week.

Weight and Bad Cholesterol are Now Great

I had been on a low fat diet and my weight and my cholesterol levels kept going higher and higher. My cousin suggested that I try the South Beach Diet as it had helped him tremendously and his weight and his cholesterol levels were now fantastic. I purchased this book and a few others and got started on the diet. I just got my lab results back and my cholesterol levels are normal and that has not been the case for about 2 years. I have also lost seven pound and I feel great. This book has really good recipes and it helps to be able to go to it and find something to cook that you can be excited about.

    Great for Small Kitchen/Quick Meals

My apartment kitchen is the size of a small closet. I do not have space for cookbooks or really much of anything else.. I purchased this book because I needed recipes for my South Beach Diet that were in Nook format. This book is fantastic. I have other Nook cookbooks that are very difficult to navigate and that require a lot of keyboarding. This is a huge pain in the butt when you have a spoon full of food in your hand and your are trying to move on to the next part of a recipe. This book requires very little navigation and the recipes are absolutely fantastic.

    Menu Ideas for Phase 2

When you move from Phase one of the South Beach Diet where foods such as bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, fruit, milk, sweets, cake, biscuits, ice cream, sugar and alcohol are banned and move to phase two where you can eat most fruits, Granary bread, wholegrain cereals and pasta and low-fat milk you are pretty excited but can get depressed when you cannot figure out what to cook with your new foods. That is where this book comes in and it helps lots. It gave me tons of recipe ideas that I could eat and has kept me excited about my weight loss and my diet.

The Only Diet that is Healthy and Works

The South Beach Diet is the only diet that works and is based on sound and healthy medical principals. The hardest part of the diet is finding recipes that are tasty, easy to make and that are allowed in Phase 2 of the diet. Phase two is the phase where you spend most of your time so you need a good variety of recipes. This book is excellent and contains lots of recipes that will keep you quite happy while you are in phase 2 of the South Beach Diet.
