About the Author

Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton (1874-1922) was an Anglo-Irish explorer and naval officer. Born in Ireland to an English father, Shackleton entered the merchant navy as a young man and joined several Antarctic expeditions between 1901 and 1917, gaining fame and international acclaim. He died en route to Antarctica during a final expedition in 1922 and was buried on South Georgia.
