Soy el Mas Fuerte

Soy el Mas Fuerte

by Mario Ramos

Editorial Reviews

PreS-Ramos uses the common picture-book theme of a villain encountering characters from many popular folk tales and then receiving his comeuppance from a most unlikely source. In this version, the wolf goes for a walk in the woods seeking affirmation from those he meets, including Little Red Riding Hood, the Three Pigs, and, inexplicably, the Seven Dwarfs. Convinced he is the strongest and most feared of all creatures, he is soon overshadowed by the enormous mother of a dragon he mistakenly considered a type of toad. Unfortunately, the wolf's internal monologs on every other page become repetitive. His dialog with other characters rings false, as it is littered with clich s and is inconsistent with his presented personality. Although the appealing oil pastel illustrations aid the story, the text ultimately fails to engage young listeners. Even the illustrations miss their mark, as every other page includes too much white space and fails to demonstrate visually the conversation between the characters. This text might be enjoyed one-on-one with preschoolers and could serve as a link to other popular fairy tales.
