Overview

After a burglary in the neighborhood, Roy's dad insists that Space Dog get to work and guard the house. Space Dog can do lots of things that other dogs —like walk, talk, and spell—but scaring away robbers isn't one of them. In fact, Space Dog is the most hopeless watchdog Roy has ever seen. Everyone thinks that Space dog is an ordinary dog, except for Roy. Space dog is really a visitor from the planet Queekrg! When Roy's dad goes away on a business trip, Space dog, who is scared of the dark, is expected to guard the house. After funny misadventures including a raccoon in the garbage can, Space dog gets his chance to save the day, when he calls the police about an intruder. Unfortunately, it is only Roy's dad home early from a trip. This beginning chapter book has black and white sketches in every chapter, and the print is large enough and well spaced for readers in early elementary school grades. Children will appreciate the offbeat humor and empathize with Roy and his best friend Space dog. Other titles in the series include Space Dog and Roy, Space Dog the Hero, and Space Dog and the Pet Show.
