Children's LiteratureBooks about the physical sciences are few and far between, so this title in the "Amazing Science: Exploring the Sky" series is a welcome sight for lovers of science in general, or comets and meteoroids specifically. Presented in an attractive format using large, clear illustrations with concise text, readers are given a few sentences about comets on each double spread. Sprinkled among the stars are "Fun Facts" connected to these space leftovers, offering smidgens of trivia to enhance everyone's knowledge. Shea's illustrations are all of the night sky, practically luring us to share this book under a canopy of stars or a blanket with a flashlight for a more realistic feeling. Even the midnight blue endpapers set the stage for a nocturnal delight. Though not providing overwhelming detail, there is enough information to add to the science library for beginning astronomers or anyone curious about objects in the sky. Following the text are further investigative activities--even instructions for making a model of a comet and a brief bibliography. 2006, Picture Window Books, Ages 9 to 12.
