Children's LiteratureIt was quiet on the bridge of the Nightstar. There was not much for the captain and crew to do. The cargo ship could almost fly itself on long journeys between the stars. Suddenly the ship gave a shudder and the warning lights came on. Todd tried to shut down the warp engine so he could check it out, but he couldn't. He was locked out of the computer. A strong radio signal was sending computer code to the Nightstar's computer. It had been taken over by space pirates. And the pirates were sending the Nightstar straight into the center of the ghost nebula. Would the crew be able to save themselves? This is a quick, fun science fiction read. With its large font size, wide letter and line spacing, short chapters, and high interest level, this book is a good one for reluctant readers. Following the text are discussion questions and writing prompts for use in a classroom setting, as well as a glossary and suggested website for further information on some of the ideas in the book. 2006 (orig. 2004), Stone Arch Books, Ages 9 to 12.
