Children's Literature - Greg M. Romaneck
Spain is a nation with a rich history and culture. With a population of over forty-seven million people, Spain remains one of the larger nations in Western Europe. Spain's landscape is marked by extreme variances in temperature, precipitation, landscape, and topography. The people of Spain represent a wide variety of languages, cultures, backgrounds, and expectations. A very Catholic country, Spain remains a nation where religion, heritage, and custom blend together to form a modern nation with a long history. Spain is also the subject of this title in the "Enchantment of the World" series. In this book a cultural and geographic look at Spain is presented by Somerville in a way that will inform readers about a land that has historically exerted tremendous impact upon the broader world. Somerville presents information about Spain's people, history, geography, flora and fauna, spirituality, and legacies. Each chapter is vividly supported by numerous color photographs of people, places, and things in Spain. While the text is somewhat encyclopedic some effort is made to personalize the narrative through first person examples. This approach results in a beautifully crafted book filled with facts and information about one nation in the European Union. Reviewer: Greg M. Romaneck
