I Also Recommend:

    A classic

Although this book is older than most of my language learning tools, it's still relevant. And for the money, it's hard to find a better value. I bought my copy for under 10 bucks new. It's great for the basics. I've been using it to teach my 13 year old daughter before our trip to Honduras. Between this one and Learning Spanish Like Crazy, she's really progressing. I can't wait to see her use what she's learned in real life.

The reason Spanish Verbs and Essentials of Grammar appeals to me is its organization. Every chapter covers just one concept, but the coverage is extensive without bogging you down in unnecessary material. If you need an explanation of, say, the subjunctive, it's just a matter of looking at the chapters that cover it.

All discussions on grammatical rules come with plenty of examples, the verb conjugation tables are great, and the chapters are short enough to keep my daughter's interest and not intimidate her. We'll be taking this one along with us on our trip.
