Overview

New Year's resolutions are one of Riley's least favorite things - until this year.

Twenty-three and single, Riley thinks resolutions should be fun, not hard. Just before midnight, she vows to make the easiest resolution ever: save her pennies and at the end of the year, buy something nice for herself. Easy! ...Or is it?

Working at a cancer treatment center can change one's perspective, and before long Riley decides to donate her extra money to cancer research rather than reward herself. At first her resolution is her own secret, but all too soon the nurses figure out her plan, and then things really begin to get out of hand!

As people through the hospital, and then the town, begin to get involved, Riley finds herself at the front of the fund-raising campaign. She also finds herself face-to-face with Paul, the grouchy but cute bank teller. But can she overcome the memory of a failed relationship - and can he do the same? And who is the secret admirer who keeps leaving pennies and notes for her to find?

Aside from a million pennies, every flavor of ice cream imaginable, and maybe even love, Riley is about to discover that an ordinary person can be the catalyst for extraordinary events.

On new years you always feel that you need to make a resolution. So you do, but how long to you keep it? Some of you may keep it until the end of the year but some of us then say to ourselves in February "next year I am not going to make a resolution ever again". In spare change by Aubrey mace, Riley Madsen is giving up on New Year's resolution also. She is at her house with her family and new years and her mother asks her what her new year's resolution is. When Riley tells her Mom that she isn't going to make one, her Mom says to make one that is little and easier to accomplish and then she can work up to harder things. So to make her mother happy, Riley sets a goal to keep all of her pennies and save up for something great. Riley works at a cancer treatment center and after a few weeks after New Year's she decides on using the money for cancer research. She doesn't tell anyone about the resolution until some of the nurses find out and then they start to pitch in. One day when she goes to the bank she meets Paul, the bank teller, when she goes to deposit the pennies he tells her that the bank will not accept the pennies. She then gets frustrated because he hands her the little brown paper coin rolls. Like she has tons of time to roll coins! I don't think so! Anyways, moving on. With contributions form her family and everyone at work her grand total is over 2,000 pennies. One day when Riley goes to the ice cream bar her has a thought to do an ice cream fundraiser. With help from the ice cream bar lady, Paula, they setup a fundraiser where the proceeds would go to cancer research. Later after work she goes to the bank again and runs into Paul. Let's just say the conversation didn't go that well. A few days later one of Riley's favorite patient passes away and she is in tears. So looking fabulous, as all people do once they cry, Riley needs to go to the bank. She doesn't see Paul until he comes out from the back. When he sees her, his bitter attitude from before is gone and he is really caring. Then (fast forwarding) the ice cream fundraiser brings in $709.32. When she goes to her car she finds pennies covering the floor and a note from a secret admirer. Then when she goes to bank to deposit the money in and Paul asks her on a date. So the next night they are together eating Chinese food and talking about their families. Now I would tell you the rest but that would ruin it for you, but I highly recommend this book to everyone especially the ones who love, love stories. This book is very easy to get into. Trust me I don't like to read at all but I decided to give this one a try and it sucked me is on the first page.
