Overview

Hell hath no fury like a ticked-off dragon…

Ysolde de Bouchier has a lot on her plate, which isn't unusual considering her Light Dragon mate Baltic is still at odds with just about everyone, starting with his former guard Thala and her outlaw posse, right down to his dragon god father. Ysolde herself fairs no better, since the First Dragon has her in his sights as well, demanding that she right past wrongs...and her time to do that is quickly running out.

With the help of some familiar friends, Ysolde sets into motion an elaborate plan that will have repercussions throughout the mortal and immortal worlds. But when a member of her family is held hostage, no one is safe from the fire of her rage.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Like the toothy monsters of legend, MacAlister’s more civilized light dragons (last seen in The Unbearable Lightness of Dragons) wheel and deal to maintain their status and protect beloved possessions. After the First Dragon tells Ysolde de Bouchier, the human reincarnation of a famous dragon, that she has to save Baltic, her light dragon mate, and the other dragons in some vague and unspecified way, she tries to glean clues from historical visions that periodically envelop her and anyone standing near her. Eventually she realizes she must coordinate a complicated scheme involving Green, Silver, and Black dragons that will reunite Baltic with a prized talisman and lift a curse. The confusion is balanced by a well-organized plot and MacAlister’s trademark humor, and the addition of a glossary and dramatis personae make the complex dragon politics more palatable, though new readers will still be lost. Library Journal
Born to the silver dragon sept but raised as a human, Ysolde de Bouchier understands both worlds. When trouble arises between the two dragons who claim her as their mate, she hatches a plan to resolve the conflict. This is the third series entry (after Love in the Time of Dragons).

Another hilarious Light Dragons novel. Not her best work, but still pretty good. The book advanced the plot, included some old favorites, like Aisling, and had me laughing out loud at times. I disagree with the previous reviewer - while the lead male may be similar to those her other books, Ysolde is pretty distinctive and the plot is substantially different.

I think Katie MacAlister is very funny and carries it across very well in her books but this one was lacking that special quality. I felt that the plot didn't advance smoothly. I also felt that KM tried too hard to make the dialogue funny with all the side comments from other characters during serious situations. I've read other series where the author seems to lose interest towards the end and the quality of the book suffers so I'm glad this series ended.

"All cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the High-Log!" He yowled. "It has come time for 2 of our apprentices to be given their warrior names. Dawnpaw! Wolfpaw!" He paused, and greeted them, "you have trained hard, and proven your loyalty to Ashclan. In return, i grant you your warrior names. I say them before Starclan, and may they hear and approve them." He turned to Dawnpaw and mewed, "Do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and protect the clan with your life?" "I do" "then you will now be known as Dawnflower!" He brushed noses with her, and turned to Wolfpaw. "Wolfpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and protect your clan with your life?" "I do!!" "Then from now on, you will be known as Wolfclaw!" He brushed noses with him, and cheered with the rest of the clan, "DAWNFLOWER! WOLFCLAW!" He smiled, and purred, "and now, we have some kits that are ready to be apprenticed!" He glanced down at the crowd of excited kits and smiled encouragingly. "Stormkit! Flamekit! Stormykit! Speckledkit! Please come up!" "Speckledkit, from this moment on, until you recieve your warrior name, you will be known as Speckledpaw." He turned to Heartstone and mewed, "this will be your first apprentice. I trust that you will teach her all that you know!" He then moved on to Flamekit. "Flamekit! From this moment on, until you recieve your warrior name, you will be known as Flamepaw!" "Spiderclaw! You have been in Ashclan for quite some time, and i know i can trust you to train this new apprentice." He smiled at his nephew proudly. "Stormykit! From this moment on, until you recieve your warrior name, you will be known as Stormypaw! And your mentor will be Fawnstep!" "Fawnstep, i trust you will pass on all you know to this young and ready apprentice." "And last, but certainly not least, Stormkit! From this moment on, until you recieve your warrior name, you shall be known as Stormpaw! And you will be mentored by Weatherspirit!" "Weatherspirit, you have shown great strength, and i know you will mentor this apprentice amazingly." He cheered, "STORMPAW! FLAMEPAW! SPECKLEDPAW! STORMYPAW!" with the rest of the clan as the new apprentices and mentors greeted eachother. <p> Fawstep smiled as she brushed noses with Stormypaw <p> Flamepaw bounced over to Spiderclaw and licked his shoulder respectfully, his blue eyes brimmig with excitement

Katie MacAlister's books are always full of handsome men, lots of testosterone, and lots of love. Wonderfully hilarious, definitely a good read that I couldn`t put down. Most of her males are the same (but she tells everyone that anyways) and Ysolde is a very interesting character =) Her females might always be similar in some way, but she isn`t the absolute same person as all her other amazing leading ladies.

Katie MacAlister is one of my favorites. I thought I could trust this purchase to provide some entertainment. Not so much. I can't finish this book. It's just too much of the same ol' poo. If there's a spark, I haven't found it. If you're a fan, try another title. If you have wanted to try her, don't use this title as an introduction. Boring is putting it lightly. Maybe it should be called "Light Draggin'" series. Yeah, that wasn't funny. See what reading this had done to me?
