Editorial Reviews

Optics & Photonic News
...the extensive bibliographies following the chapters are priceless, and they provide an invaluable resource for the researcher who wants to initiate an effort in the field...the book is technically sound and would serve as an excellent reference book for the fast moving spatial light modulator field.
Optical Engineering
The overall coverage of the book is excellent and well balanced. Efron has done a commendable job in bringing together well-respected expertise in the field and logically organizing the book chapters for a very diverse audience. The book is well illustrated and the subsections in each chapter make it easy to identify topics of interest from the table of contents.
Spatial light modulators SLMs are optical modulators constructed so as to spatially modulate, according to prescribed input, a readout optical beam. The spatial modulation may be one-, two-, or even three- dimensional. Although the output of the device is by definition optical, the input may be either optical or electrical. The importance of these devices that impose spatial modulation on optical beams lies in their being the critical elements of a variety of emerging new technologies. This comprehensive reference covers all aspects of spatial light modulators SLMs, from the various optical materials used for modulation, through the availability and characteristics of specific devices, to the main applications of SLMs and related systems.
